Vancouver Metro Vancouver Regional District, CA Motion Metrics Full time

Robotics Engineer
Weir Motion Metrics
Location: Vancouver, Canada (Hybrid)

Purpose of Role:
Weir Motion Metrics is looking for a champion problem solver to work with our Payload Monitoring (PLM) team as they strive to provide unique mining solutions to make the industry more efficient and sustainable. As someone who is passionate for engineering, robotics, and mechatronics, you will not be afraid to dive headlong into resolving issues that have never been mapped out before. You are a person who can create your own autonomous structure for work but you can also switch gears and enter a friendly, collaborative, and trust-based environment with the team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop post-processing software to analyze kinematics, dynamics, and vibrations of electromechanical systems.
- Design, develop, and evaluate production-grade autonomous systems, including sensing, perception, system identification, and real-time feedback.
- Maintain quality, performance, and robustness of electromechanical systems and software applications.
- Prepare documents outlining the test procedures to validate and improve product performance.

Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world-class safety culture.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
- You can independently work with sensors through sensing, perception estimation, and control applications without much supervision.
- Designing motion sensing solutions (INS, GPU, IMU, Accelerometers) is your jam, including frequency analysis and tuning of integrated system-level components.
- You know how to design and develop production-grade autonomous systems including sensing, perception, and control.
- You have an excellent level of theoretical knowledge in engineering and physics that allows you to creatively attack the problems you face day to day and come up with amazing solutions, on time.
- Experience with state estimation, signal processing, and filter design (FIR/IIR/EKF/UKF) for dynamical systems and electromechanical systems.
- Experience with Machine Learning handling various signal types including time-series data and expertise with designing robust regression models for predictive capabilities.
- Experience working with industrial communication protocols: RS232/RS422, EtherCAT, and CAN/CANOpen.
- Programming language experience with Python and C/C++; comfortable with modern DevOps workflow and practices.
