Kingston Ontario AK, Lennox and Addington, Canada The Salvation Army Full time

The Children and Youth Coordinator provides an outreach and discipleship ministry to children and young people from the church and the local community, from preschool through university, with the ultimate goal of reaching them with the gospel, solidly connecting them with the church, and growing them in their relationship with and service to God.

  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college certificate or diploma program in Biblical Studies/Theology, Bible College/Youth Ministry education
  • Additional education in Children/Youth work is an asset
  • Ability and willingness to provide a valid Safe Food Handlers Certification and First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Children/Youth leadership, with a background in volunteer coordination and strong outreach and discipleship skills
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License; personal vehicle and insurance, and a current copy of a Driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
  • Proficiency with social media and Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to children, youth, and parents
  • Must have good written and verbal communication
  • Strong sense of integrity including the ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
  • An ability to communicate to, motivate, train, and empower youth and youth ministry volunteers
  • Ability to work well within a cooperative team environment and follow the direction of the immediate supervisor
  • Possess strong interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Possess a passion for the spiritual development and well-being of young people, and a love for the Church
  • Articulate and demonstrate a clear vision for child/youth ministry
  • Understand and accept the Mission Statement of Kingston Rideau Heights Church
  • Willingness to attend and invest in The Salvation Army Kingston Rideau Heights Community Church Sunday services
  • Solid grasp and application skills in social media applications (advertising, creating videos etc.)
  • Versed in social media platforms and aptitude to develop online communications
  • Strong public speaking skills with the ability to preach a sermon or give a devotional when required
  • Understand, support; committed to teach and promote and be able to communicate and model the Mission, Values, Vison and sound Christian doctrine, and policies of The Salvation Army in Canada
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and any required disclosures for working with children in accordance with The Salvation Army Policy and Procedures
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
