The Financial Controller provides valuable financial and accounting insights at an operational level, offering expertise to management for decision-making purposes. Additionally, the Financial Controller also handles the tactical aspects of the role, providing day-to-day financial services to support the organization effectively.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Financial Controller is responsible for a wide range of financial duties, playing a key role in providing insights into company performance. The role requires meticulous attention to detail and execution of the following deliverables:


Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly financial statements.
  • Perform variance analysis on all financial line items and statements.
  • Prepare bank account reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Ensure compliance with CRA reporting and filing requirements.
  • Provide financial governance for the organization.


Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in budget preparation.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of budget-to-actual performance.
  • Prepare current year and future forecasts.
  • Budget for capital replacements.
  • Review indirect cost allocations.


Accounting Operations:

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting operational functions.
  • Take ownership of ERP maintenance.
  • Lead the month-end process for project management teams, including forecasting and reporting (job costing).
  • Ensure efficient and effective project reporting and processes.
  • Coordinate and oversee accounting consultants, year-end reviews, and all external reporting reviews, including related companies.
  • Maintain document control.


Payroll, Cash Flow, and Banking:

  • Oversee payroll processes.
  • Manage cash flow and banking activities.
  • Set up and maintain bank accounts.
  • Monitor covenant reporting and cash flow.


Office Administration:

  • Renew commercial and auto insurance policies annually.
  • Assist with SRED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) submissions.


The Financial Controller's role is integral to providing comprehensive financial insights and ensuring the smooth operation of financial functions within the organization.
