Overview:
We are seeking an experienced leader in carbon markets to join our Transactions team. The Director, Transactions & Strategy will lead the development of the business unit globally that supports ClearBlue’s clients in assessing opportunities across programs in North America, South America and Europe in order to participate as a buyer or seller of various environmental financing mechanisms (e.g. Compliance credits, RECs, RINs, Offsets, Insets, etc).
The job will offer the opportunity to work with fuel producers, utilities, industrials, and others on emission reduction and low carbon strategies. The role will bring experience and insights to renewable fuels and energy and methane solutions and understand how to monetize the environmental attributes related to those initiatives. The successful candidate will bring a combination of technical, financial, and business development skills with strong communication, analytical and marketing competencies. You will identify underserved areas and/or identify new business areas and create strategies to capitalize upon them. The Director will get to work collaboratively with other teams at ClearBlue in the development of bespoke advisory outputs and transactions including economic value assessments, regulatory risk analysis, market outlooks, reports, memos, presentations, and compliance strategies.
Main Responsibilities:
- Identifying, and developing areas for Advisory and Transaction services for clients in assisting them to meet GHG reduction targets and mitigate market risks.
- Providing leadership in understanding existing and new environmental markets, and how our clients are impacted by those schemes and identifying market opportunities.
- Conduct detailed calculations to determine economic value of various client fuel projects will be part of working with clients to establish new areas of opportunities and build plans.
- Lead identification and completion of sales of carbon credits, renewable energy or offsets with existing and new clients in North America.
- Lead preparation of reports where necessary.
- Working with clients to better understand technological options available to them to reduce emissions and the economic value this may have under existing and new regulations.
- Travel to client sites for meetings when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in engineering, environmental management, economics or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in carbon markets with compliance market obligations and involvement in carbon markets.
- Strong understanding of how to monetize biogas, renewable energy, methane and/or low carbon solution.
- 10+ years of experience as a broker or in sales.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint.
- Excellent quantitative skills.
- The ability to explain difficult concepts in simple terms to peers, teams and policy makers.
- An affinity for carbon markets and reducing air emissions and environmental impact.
- People leadership experience and the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
- Ambitious and team player.
- Strong interpersonal and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with key market stakeholders and all levels internally.
- Positive and highly motivated attitude.
