Brief Job Description

Reporting to the Financial and Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions for the operations at Donald’s Fine Foods in Richmond and assisting in the preparation of financial statements and results for the Company. This position is responsible for ensuring the preparation and delivery of accurate financial and costing reports, and working to improve understanding of key business drivers to maximize results. Identification and implementation of best practices comprise a key component of this role.

Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

  • Manage vendor invoices and statements. Ensure proper approval is obtained before processing.
  • Review invoices to check for reasonable service/goods and pricing.
  • Check for appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Ensure proper GL coding for invoices for accurate reporting.
  • Follow up and resolve irregularities in vendor statements.
  • Regularly review accounts payable ledgers.
  • Optimize payment processes to take full advantage of vendor terms and payment discounts.
  • Regularly review the processes and policies for improvements and more efficient ways to perform tasks.
  • Daily and weekly vendor EFT batch review and setup.

Inventory Control

  • Perform daily inventory intercompany transfer transactions.
  • Review inventory receiving accuracy, ensure proper physical inventory intercompany transfer is performed by the logistic team, and resolve issues if any.
  • Follow up with daily dock missing inventory.
  • Perform ERP 3rd party meat inventory receiving, verify receiving record against vendor invoice before processing.
  • Handle 3rd party meat inventory return/refund process.
  • Ensure regular cycle counts are performed.
  • Perform reasonable inventory management system inventory deletion.
  • Monitor inventory FIFO process.
  • Generate periodic inventory status reports to production/sales team.
  • Follow up and resolve inaccurate inventory levels and old date inventory issues.

Month End Process

  • Handle monthly inventory freezing.
  • Perform monthly inventory reconciliation, resolving any discrepancies found.
  • Review and perform monthly WIP calculation, dry goods consumption/valuation, and inventory valuation.
  • Enter monthly standard financial and statistics journals.
  • Perform GL reconciliation.
  • Perform bank reconciliation.
  • Revalue bank for general ledger, AR, and AP.
  • Perform monthly accrual.
  • Perform cost statement analysis, making necessary adjustments and looking for potential cost savings.
  • Maintain Company assets book.

Financial and KPIs Reporting

  • Generate periodic critical number reports.
  • Generate periodic inventory reports.
  • Generate periodic sales summary reports.
  • Generate periodic plants cost statements.
  • Generate periodic plants balanced scorecards.
  • Conduct ad hoc reporting and analysis.

Budgeting

  • Prepare annual budgeting templates, working with the plant managers and respective departments to ensure reasonable budgeting.

External Auditing

  • Prepare, review, and submit external audit requested information.
  • Perform necessary adjustments and process improvements if any.

General Support Function

  • Find and use accounting data to resolve accounting problems and discrepancies.
  • Generate ad hoc reports and analysis as requested.
  • Perform filing and general administrative tasks.
  • Liaise with other departments/customers/vendors.
  • Other duties as required.

Position Requirements & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience.
  • Completion of accounting bachelor’s degree and in pursuit of CPA.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Team player.
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Typically works Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with some weekend requirements.
