Manufacturing Engineer III


Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer will be pivotal in our manufacturing operations, focusing on enhancing production processes and managing projects to improve efficiency and productivity. This role is a liaison between the manufacturing team and other departments, ensuring efficient production methods and integrating new products into the assembly lines. This role is a one year contract providing coverage for an upcoming maternity leave.


Location: Burnaby, BC


Schedule: Monday to Friday


Reporting to: Manager, Engineering


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes through detailed planning, thoughtful design, and effective project management.
  • Manage and update the preventive maintenance list to ensure the optimal performance of the maintenance technician.
  • Redesign manufacturing layouts to optimize workflow and space utilization.
  • Serve as a project manager for manufacturing improvements, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Implement Lean manufacturing principles to streamline operations, reduce cycle times and eliminate waste.
  • Drive core enhancements in production methods to prepare for introducing new products.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation, including but not limited to work instructions, are in place to support training initiatives and tool requirements.
  • Identify and manage maintenance needs to maintain production line efficiency.
  • Implement and support production safety protocols and troubleshoot production issues as they arise.
  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives to foster a culture of excellence and innovation.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or mechanical engineering.
  • A lean black belt is an asset.


Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering role, with a proven track record of process improvements.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed root cause analysis and manage the change from the necessary countermeasures.
  • Ability to work with detail and audit against errors.
  • Ability to plan and organize projects and tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of process mapping and flowcharts and possess a process-driven mindset.
  • Ability to develop and maintain rapport with stakeholders of all levels.
  • Ability to communicate concisely and clearly through both written and verbal means.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with different departments and levels of management.
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance scheduling and preventive maintenance practices.
  • A commitment to safety and experience in troubleshooting production issues.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and lead change within the manufacturing environment.


Work Environment:

This role requires a dynamic individual who can thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. The Manufacturing Engineer III will spend time on the production floor, as well as in an office setting, for planning and design work. The candidate must be comfortable working in a collaborative environment while also being capable of independent decision-making.
