The Director of Finance and Support Services is responsible and accountable to the Executive Director for overseeing the management of the financial and accounting departments for the organization. These main duties include evaluating and directing accounting, audit or financial departments, developing financial policies for the organization, and evaluating and improving systems already in place. Director of Support Services is responsible and accountable for planning, organizing, directing and controlling of auxiliary operations in support to inpatients, outpatients and other services. He/she is also responsible and accountable for the effective management of financial, human and material resources within this directorship. He/she must ensure that there is an overall plan for the development and implementation of education programs for auxiliary operations personnel. As a member of the senior management team, he/she initiates and participates in the global assessment of the needs of the hospital community and participates in strategic planning to meet these needs. He/she is also required to establish and maintain effective working relationships amongst internal departments and with various agencies and organizations external to the hospital centre.
  • Participates in the allocation of financial resources needed to carry out the hospital’s strategic plan and objectives.
  • Must addresses the Auditor’s annual letter of recommendations.
Must ensure appropriate controls are in place and are respected. * Must ensure procurement processes produce good use of financial resources.
  • Meets, when necessary, with clients and families to address personal needs and dissatisfaction.
  • Conducts annual sessions with Finance, Technical Services Food and Nutrition Services and Information Technology team, to ensure work plans, tools, projects and services align with overall KMHC strategic plan
  • Participates with other members of the Management Team in defining broad KMHC goals and objectives and in the development of the strategic and operational plans
  • Provides expertise to team managers with regard to auxiliary operations issues
  • Plans and participates in the preparation of annual, short term and long-range plans for auxiliary operations and prepares an annual report, submitted to the Executive Director
  • Solves problems effectively with an emphasis on developing proactive and productive approaches
  • Reviews staffing and recommends solutions
  • Ensures Operations teams conduct relevant research to identify emerging needs and develop annual work plans and budgets in response
  • Collaborates with legal counsel, as appropriate, to resolve issues with a goal of reducing organizational risk and exposure
  • Analyzes the needs and requests of employees under his/her supervision relative to the acquisition, utilization and maintenance of equipment
  • Assures that all guidelines, laws, directives and standards applicable to each department under his/her supervision are developed and maintained
  • Analyzes the needs and requests of professionals (i.e. physicians, dentists and pharmacists) relative to the acquisition, utilization and maintenance of equipment
  • Participates in the development and implementation of Administration policies
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration or Business Administration (Master’s Degree preferred); and six to ten years related experience in finance and management fields required
  • Strong knowledge of accounting practices, financial analysis and controls
  • Information Technologies and information management background
  • Emergency procedures experience
  • Understanding of Security, Housekeeping, Laundry, and Patient Transport functions
  • Understanding of Dietary production processes
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office applications, as well as financial software.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Kanien’keha Language, culture and history an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with Indigenous people, including sound knowledge and understanding of issues impacting mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health in contemporary society
