**Position Summary**
The Director of Education is responsible for the oversight of all education related affairs of the Kahnawake Education Center. As a senior director of the KEC, the Director of Education, in conjunction with the Director of Finance and Administration, is responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of high quality education programs and initiatives of the KEC.
In the spirit of Tsi Niionkwarihò:ten, and as guided by the vision and mission of the KEC, the Director of Education will actualize and operationalize the strategic direction of the system through the KCSC and their Standing Directors’ Supervisory Committee.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Responsibility 1: Administrative Responsibilities (in collaboration with Director of Finance and Administration) (35%)**
- To collaborate and consult with the KCSC on governance procedures
- To present issues and to propose solutions and recommendations on KEC policies, procedures and vision for consideration by the KCSC.
- To present regular monthly activity reports on school issues, enrolment, staffing, programs and other educational activities to the KCSC.
- To produce quarterly reports for the Standing Directors’ Supervisory Committee monitoring progress towards strategic and operational objectives and to take part in all feedback sessions as required by the performance management process.
- To direct and participate in the development and implementation of strategic and operational goals, objectives, policies and annual work plans for the KEC.
- To supervise the implementation and progress of the strategic plans, policies and procedures of the KEC.
- To determine resources required to achieve KEC strategic goals.
- To collaborate on the managment of finances, including the budget and all assets of the KEC (in partnership with the Director of Finance and Administration).
- To ensure reporting mechanisms for funding and operational requirements are adhered to within the prescribed timeframes.
- To collaborate with the KEC Leadership to ensure effective and efficient use of KEC resources.
- To collaborate with the Human Resources Manager in the delivery of human resources and professional development services to the staff of the three community schools and the KEC.
- To collaborate and approve KEC communication plans.
**Responsibility 2: Strategic and Program Monitoring (30%)**
- To ensure processes to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the organization, schools and students are implemented
- To oversee the development and implementation of the operational structure, programming and curriculum, to include the strategic plan, operational plan, and work plan for the Education department.

- To direct and advise policy through research, program offerings, preparing documents or administering programs for elementary and secondary school systems
- To organize and direct committees, working groups, and teams to plan, manage or evaluate education projects and programs for the school
**Responsibility 3: Leadership Development and Performance Management (25%)**
- Identify and develop a talented team to lead critical departments that manage strategic functions.
- Foster skills, abilities and potential of others
- Foster accountability and a positive work environment
- Motivate teams and employees to work towards shared objectives
- To ensure processes are in place to identify, develop and nurture leadership within the organization
- In collaboration with the KEC team, to ensure professional development for all employees in the Education department takes place.
- To supervise, mentor and support all direct reports on regular basis.
- To conduct performance appraisals of all direct reports in a timely manner.
- To ensure all direct reports conduct performance appraisals of their staff as required and to offer support and guidance throughout the performance management process.
**Responsibility 4: Community and External Liaisons (10%)**
- To effectively liaise with the representatives of community and external organizations to maintain communications on all matters affecting the KEC.
- To lead initiatives that impact Kahnawake Education with stakholders on a community, provincial and national level.
- To lead all communication with representatives of educational organizations such as the First Nations Education Council (FNEC), Ministère de l’Éducation et Enseignment Supérieure (MEES) and regional school boards.
- To oversee service and funding agreements from the FNEC and Indigenous Services Canada and to share direct responsibility with the Director Finance and Administration. These services include:
