QUALIFICATIONS
* Clinical Masters Degree in Audiology from an accredited or approved university
* Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Manitoba
* Membership/eligibility for membership with Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC)
* Skilled ability in the assessment, identification and treatment of clients in varying ages and diagnosis
* Demonstrated proficiency in procedures related to the profession
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within the Prairie Mountain Health

POSITION SUMMARY

The Audiologist performs all duties in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values, Strategic Priorities, policies and procedures of Prairie Mountain Health (PMH). The Audiologist provides leadership in the care of clients contributing to the assessment, planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of all aspects of care related to the profession of Audiology in accordance with the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as set out for Audiology by the College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists of Manitoba. The Audiologist collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, clients, families and external agencies regarding the care needs for the client in the community and facility settings (maternity).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overview:

  1. Organizes, prioritizes and assumes responsibility for caseload.
  2. Applies Audiology knowledge and skill to provide optimum individualized and continuous assessment and treatment for clients assigned.
  3. Collaborates with clients on the planning, implementation, and progression of the treatment plan, providing education and counseling to the client and/or family member.
  4. Provide supervision and guidance to Audiology Assistants and Newborn Hearing Screeners in Prairie Mountain Health.
  5. Delegates activities and tasks to Audiology Assistants and Newborn Hearing Screeners as appropriate and in accordance with the treatment plan, within College guidelines, and through procedures detailed in the Manitoba UNHS Protocol and Support Document (2016).
  6. Utilizes evidence-based practice and techniques within the scope of Audiology.
  7. Communicates, consults and collaborates with other health care professionals of the multidisciplinary team in the implementation of the treatment plan.
  8. Documents in a timely manner as per PMH policy and relevant professional college guidelines.
  9. Liaises, consults and exchanges verbal and/or written information with external agencies in accordance with relevant policy and legislation.
  10. Completes required statistical reporting within established timelines.
  11. Collaborates through discussions with management to ensure continuity of services to optimize caseload coverage during periods of absence vacancy, whenever reasonably possible.
  12. Provides clinical supervision of students, new employees or provisional Audiologists as per guidelines.
  13. Works collaboratively with management in proposing, planning and participating in the implementation of services and/or audiology programming.
  14. Participates in performance review process and goal setting to enhance work performance.
  15. Serves as a public consultant regarding hearing conservation matters through provision of educational materials and instructional in-services.
  16. Identifies appropriate rehabilitation options related to the client’s audiological needs.
  17. Refers clients to other professional clinicians as applicable.
  18. Provides comprehensive diagnostic evaluations for infants, preschool children, school age children, and adults referred to Audiology with known or suspected auditory dysfunction.
  19. Provides supportive counseling to clients and/or their families regarding the nature of the identified hearing loss.
  20. Selects, fits, and verifies hearing aids for infants, preschool children and school aged children.
  21. Fits and verifies FM Systems for children.
  22. Monitors audiometric equipment with regular biologic and/or electroacoustic calibration checks and maintain calibration records.
  23. Monitors electroacoustic characteristics of personal amplification devices.
  24. Provides minor repairs to personal amplification systems.
  25. Provides staff development, orientation, and consultation for volunteers and health professionals involved in hearing conservation.
  26. Participates in community development activities related to hearing and speech promotion.
  27. Reports pertinent information to the Therapy Services management in a timely manner.
  28. Sundry duties as assigned.
