Job Summary

The Lead FX is a key member of the show that is responsible for managing sequences and those artists assigned to their sequences, being a part of the leadership team that drives the quality and style of the show and partnering with the CG Supervisor and other Leads to achieve these goals.

Responsibilities

  1. Training new hires in department standards, workflow, and techniques.
  2. Guiding and mentoring artists in advancing their work towards asset/shot approval.
  3. Work well with team members in an advisory role and can show them process and troubleshooting.
  4. Following the artists' work to make sure they address the notes, respect the briefs, and meet deadlines.
  5. Helping the CG Sup to design and improve the workflow.
  6. Communicate with CG Sup regarding any issues on the table or potential problems that are foreseen.
  7. Simulate natural phenomena by applying direct and procedural animation techniques to create a variety of effects.
  8. Following the quality control with the team.
  9. Create and compose 3D effects elements.
  10. Create and communicate animation timing for effects.
  11. Work with the production team to create the desired look for the effect.

Qualifications

  1. Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience.
  2. A minimum of 4 years production experience in film or television effects.
  3. Thorough knowledge of 3D effects and simulation techniques.
  4. Strong knowledge of Houdini required.
  5. Strong knowledge of Maya required.
  6. Working knowledge of Unreal Engine required.
  7. Working knowledge of Niagara in Unreal Engine.
  8. Experience programming with Python is a plus.
  9. Compositing experience is a big plus.
  10. Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas.
  11. Able to follow directions well.
  12. Able to multi-task and prioritize.
  13. Able to thrive in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
  14. Enjoy working in teams.
