This individual role models the values & expectations of McMaster University and the Department of Athletics and Recreation.

This part-time position is responsible for all coaching elements associated with the sport program. Reporting to the Manager, Competitive Sports, the incumbent is responsible for the overall direction, planning, team selection, and player development. The head coach ensures compliance to McMaster, OUA, USPORTS policies and regulations.

The coach will work cooperatively with athletic department staff in event scheduling, facility, travel planning, budgeting, purchasing of equipment and apparel, alumni engagement and completing other administrative requirements.

The Golf season begins with try-outs in late August/early September, and 6-7 tournaments between September and October including the OUA Championship. Student-athletes train at a local club which is TBD for the upcoming season. In a typical season the coach will coordinate an invitational tournament at a local club to be part of the league competitive schedule- this also serves as a fundraising opportunity to support the team operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Outstanding character, integrity, passion and a commitment to excellence.
  • Excellent communicator with strong teaching and technical golf skills.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated team player.
  • Commitment to promotion equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Be knowledgeable in the technical, tactical, physical and psychological elements of golf.
  • Willingness to work with an integrated support team.
  • Preference to those with some experience in coaching and those who competed at a post-secondary level.
  • Candidates will need to submit proof of basic coaching certifications or will need to complete upon appointment to the role.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends is required.
  • The successful candidate will require a vulnerable sector check.

APPOINTMENT DETAILS:

The appointment will be for one year commencing August 1, 2024 with the option to renew pending a year-end performance evaluation.

This is a volunteer appointment with a $2000 honourarium offered each season for coaching both the men’s and women’s golf program.
