About the Company

Established over 60 years ago, Cyril J. Demeyere Limited is a Consulting Engineering firm that specializes in municipal engineering works for both private developers and local municipalities. CJDL has extensive experience in land development and in road reconstruction in an urban environment where the scope of work includes replacement of sanitary sewer, storm sewer and watermain.

The scope of this role includes:

The Land Development Planner will work on a large collection of diverse projects ranging from urban infill to master plans to various site-specific applications. Successful applicants will collaborate with our internal and sub-consultant teams as well as developers, builders, contractors, stakeholders, and residents to obtain various land use planning approvals throughout the areas that CJDL serves.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide thoughtful leadership in land use strategy, planning, and policy in Ontario
  • Develop business with an existing network and new clients requiring land use planning services
  • Work collaboratively with other lines of business to introduce the full suite of services provided by CJDL Consulting Engineers
  • Build and develop the Land Planning department
  • Maintain professional relationships with planning authorities, regulatory agencies and industry associations
  • Communicate with the public during community meetings
  • Guide clients through the approval process including providing strategic advice and innovative solutions to land use planning issues
  • Lead the submission of a variety of planning applications and site plan designs
  • Prepare and submit planning justification reports, urban design briefs, draft Zoning By-laws, and draft Official Plan Amendments
  • Other duties as assigned

What it takes:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a specific focus in Planning and Land Development (Graduate degree would be an asset);
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Planning System, including relevant legislation and the development approval process;
  • Candidate membership with OPPI;
  • Minimum 2 years of planning (or related) experience;
  • Knowledge of the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT; formerly the Ontario Municipal Board [OMB]) would be an asset, but not required;
  • Lead projects with strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to achieve successful results;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral, with staff, project team members and the public;
  • Valid G-class driver’s license with daily access to a vehicle.
