Who We Are:

At Sonus Microsystems, we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in medical diagnostics. We are leveraging state-of-the-art AI and patented polymer MEMS technology to develop a revolutionary and novel imaging diagnostic device aimed at transforming clinical screening and remote patient monitoring. Our proprietary technology involves fabrication of polymer-based Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasound Transducers (polyCMUTs), which have unique characteristics that enable the use of ultrasound in applications not previously possible.

We are an enthusiastic, interdisciplinary and collaborative team, eagerly preparing to deliver impactful solutions to customers.

Why This Role Matters:

This is not just another engineering job—it is an opportunity to shape the future of healthcare. We are gearing up to take our groundbreaking ultrasound prototypes from the lab to the hands of real-world users. We are seeking a hands-on engineering leader, who thrives at the intersection of software and hardware, with the expertise, vision, and grit to guide us through the complexities of productization and scaling.

If you have a background in the development and release of complex systems, are ready to bring your blend of technical expertise and leadership skills for a fast-paced early-stage startup, and are enthusiastic about improving the healthcare and lives of millions of people worldwide by shaping the next generation of ultrasound technology, this role is for you

What You Will Do:

  • Build & ship real impact: Take our cutting-edge ultrasound prototypes and transform them into market-ready products. Use your deep industry experience to navigate the risks and challenges during development and production phases.
  • Roll up your sleeves: Dive into the technical details—whether it’s guiding software and hardware integration, managing release timelines, or coordinating demos and patient trials. You’ll play a pivotal role in every stage of the journey.
  • Lead & inspire: Mentor and grow a team of talented engineers, shaping a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Bridge academia & industry: Work closely with our research-driven team to translate breakthrough ideas into scalable products. Your understanding of the startup world will be key to blending research with real-world application.
  • Drive innovation & excellence: Stay ahead of the curve with the latest in ultrasound, medical devices, and emerging technologies. Set high standards for product quality and regulatory compliance, ensuring our technology meets the highest industry benchmarks.

What You Will Bring:

  • 5-10 years in hands-on technical roles at the intersection of software and hardware, with a progression into both technical and people leadership positions
  • Proven track record of leading projects from prototype to production, ideally in medical devices or similar regulated industries
  • Forward-thinking mindset to manage risk throughout the entire product lifecycle
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and tackle all aspects of the release process including documentation, scheduling demos and patient trials
  • Experience in the development of complex systems which include hardware, software, and AI
  • Ability to translate research insights into commercial products, including regulatory processes
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, capable of guiding both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • BSEE in a field of engineering or related is required, MS/PhD preferred

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Experience with medical device regulatory requirements and quality management systems
  • Familiarity with ultrasound imaging, ultrasonics transducers and CMUT technology
  • Medical device development background, particularly medical ultrasound devices is a strong asset
  • Background in systems engineering and software development for hardware integration
  • Having P.Eng certification or being qualified and willing to apply for it

What’s In It For You:
