Position Description


The Utilities HVAC Technician will be responsible for performing a variety of routine operational and maintenance tasks to ensure the facility's efficient and safe operation. This includes but is not limited to monitoring, adjustments and reporting of equipment operation, and cleaning, repair, and basic maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment.


Responsibilities:

  • Work in a fast-paced team-oriented state of the art manufacturing environment
  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain and overhaul environmental control equipment such as condenser units, pumps, air handlers, heat exchangers, dehumidifiers and other mechanical equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment to control areas within specifications (35%, 10% and 1% relative humidity zones)
  • Identify maintenance risks on equipment.
  • Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults for environmental control systems.
  • Identify parts and material for repairs and maintain refrigerant stock.
  • Assist in training apprentices.
  • New equipment specification review and support including commissioning checks and risk assessments.
  • Assist in creating incident reports with deep dive problem solving and root cause investigation
  • Demonstrate problem solving methodology and assist in reduction of utility cost.
  • Follow work procedures and comply with safety standards.
  • Conduct all activities and interactions in a professional manner


Minimum Requirements:

  • 2+ years of commercial and/or industrial HVAC experience
  • 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic
  • A valid G Driver's License, with a clean abstract
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Willing and able to work plant shutdowns, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Willing and able to work overtime, sometimes on short notice


Preferred Requirements:

  • TSSA Gas Technician 2 (Gas 1 is an asset)
  • ODP certificate
  • Proficiency in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics and drawings.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC safety practices and regulations.
  • Knowledge & experience with sorption dehumidifiers (desiccant wheel) units.
  • Be self-motivated and demonstrate skill, initiative and judgment to make decisions and communicate these decisions with departmental supervisor for approval.
  • Strong computer skills that include Email, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Verification of any certification is required.
