POSITION TITLE: Volunteer Co-ordinator
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
LOCATION: Sherwood Park, AB
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time, 40 hours per week
A. OBJECTIVES – (overall function and purpose of this position)
The responsibilities of the position include the review and maintenance of the volunteer program, identifying program needs and developing volunteer resources. The Co-ordinator of Volunteers provides ongoing support and training opportunities for volunteers and works as a member of the team by participating in staff and volunteer development. Assists with annual fund development projects.
B. SCOPE: (placement within the organization)
The Co-ordinator of Volunteers reports to the Executive Director.
C. RELATIONSHIPS: (nature of the level of contacts required to accomplish the work – internal, external, government)
Executive Director, Office staff, Shelter staff and volunteers
D. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruit volunteers to Shelter from the local community
- Interview, screen and select volunteers based on the individual’s suitability and commitment to the program
- Organize training for new volunteers with managers according to established program procedures
- Provide on-the-job training for volunteers with managers with appropriate levels of supervision
- Develop and organize training sessions in order to further develop commitment to the mandate of the Shelter and knowledge of women’s issues
- Monitor volunteer performance and evaluate on a bi-annual schedule
- Develop volunteers in areas of expertise as determined by Shelter needs
- Ensure volunteer commitment to client confidentiality through strict adherence to the Confidentiality of Information and Volunteer Contract
- Maintain a creative and comprehensive rewards and recognition program with budget guidelines
- Provide orientation to Shelter and program policies and procedures for new volunteers.
- Develop and maintain training packages, manuals, and resource materials for different program areas
- Organizes annual Volunteer recognition event in accordance with Volunteer Recognition Week
- Assist with Fund development projects such as Tree of Hope Campaign, the annual Golf Tournament and other annual projects
- Other related duties as required
E. SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Public speaking engagements in community as required
- Deployment of volunteers in co-operation with leadership team
- Provide an ongoing update of plans to leadership team
- Attend monthly staff meetings.
F. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Submit monthly program statistics
- Submit monthly timesheet
- Provide educational literature for in-house volunteers
- Schedule volunteer hours as required to best support clients and staff
- Maintain volunteer files including record of hours and extent of involvement
- Aid in the preparation of annual program evaluation and grant application to the United Way
G. AUTHORITY TO:
- Expand funds allocated to the Volunteer budget according to established procedures
- Claim authorized travel expenses according to established procedures
H. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Volunteer Management Sector Diploma or equivalent
- Experience and knowledge of non-profit agencies and Volunteer Boards of Directors
- Working knowledge of word processing
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to operate within an open style of management
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Knowledge of community resources with the ability to liaise in a professional and effective manner while facilitating good working relationships
- Knowledge in the area of family violence and wife assault
- Ability to lift and / or move up to 10 - 50 lbs.
- Physically demanding role, bending, lifting, and standing for long periods of time.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00-$28.00 per hour
