Position Overview

Lower Lakes Towing is looking to to add a Regulatory and Compliance Officer to our Shoreside Team. The Regulatory and Compliance Officer plays a critical role in ensuring vessels meet and exceed internal and external standards for safety and regulatory compliance. The role demands a solid foundation in marine regulations, effective communication, and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet compliance deadlines.


Responsibilities

Regulatory and Compliance

  • Conduct internal ISM audits annually on all vessels, discuss results, and work to implement changes prior to external ABS audits.
  • Onboard vessel during external ABS audit
  • Follow up on all non-conformities and observations resulting from external audits, working with department heads on corrective actions.
  • Maintain vessel Certificates in compliance with Transport Canada
  • Attend annual regional and national CMAC meetings, advise the President LLT on impacts of regulatory changes.
  • Represent LLT on the Marine Operations Committee, work with industry partners in shared efforts and provide valuable input to the Committee.
  • Revise SEEMP, BWMP, SOPEP, MERP and Fire Control Plans as required.
  • Make vessel visits as required.


SMS Responsibilities

  • Review policies relating to Operations and work closely with the Health and Safety Specialist
  • Organize senior management review meetings.
  • Confirm drills, meetings and audits updated in system.
  • Review event management and tasks uploaded by vessels, provide timely response.


Qualifications

  • Diploma, Nautical Sciences, Marine Engineering or Equivalent
  • Experience with ISM and conducting audits
  • Working experience with ABS and Lloyds
  • Experience working in a marine officer position.
  • Knowledge of marine regulatory enviornment including the Canada Shipping Act
  • Ability to work in a team with multiple shoreside departments on regulatory issues
  • Communicte clearly (written and orally) with Vessel-side and respond to inquiries in a timely manner
  • Manage priorities in a timely manner, ensuring important due dates are met
  • Computer skills include MS Office Suite and ability to adapt to new programs as required
