Job Description – Snowflake DevOps Engineer & Administrator
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Snowflake DevOps Engineer to join our team, with a focus on managing and optimizing Snowflake infrastructure and implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions. This critical role is responsible for deploying, managing, and scaling Snowflake environments within an AWS cloud ecosystem, automating infrastructure provisioning and ensuring seamless, secure, and efficient data operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, deploy, and maintain data infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on automation, security, performance, and scalability.
Core Responsibilities and Experience
- Manage and optimize Snowflake environments, including account setup, user provisioning, resource monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Ensure secure access controls (RBAC) and adhere to data governance best practices within Snowflake.
- Strong experience in setting up Roles, Users, Data shares, Accounts and Schemas.
- Troubleshoot issues within Snowflake environments, performing root cause analysis to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support efficient data loading, transformation, and retrieval processes.
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, primarily using tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation, for consistent and scalable infrastructure deployment.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and monitoring across Snowflake and associated cloud infrastructure
- Develop CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployment and integration processes for Snowflake infrastructure.
- Collaborate with cloud engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance within AWS (or other cloud providers) environments.
- Monitor and maintain cloud resources, focusing on cost optimization, performance, and security.
- Contribute to cloud infrastructure resilience and disaster recovery planning.
- Partner with Data Engineering application teams, Security, and Compliance teams to align Snowflake infrastructure with organizational standards.
- Document Snowflake infrastructure, IaC scripts, and operational processes for internal use and new team members.
- Actively participate in Agile Scrum practices such as daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, planning and sprint retrospectives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5-10 years of experience working in the field of IT, specifically as Data infrastructure DevOps or Database Administrator.
- 2+ years of experience in DevOps or Cloud Engineering roles.
- 3+ years’ strong experience as Snowflake administration and cloud data infrastructure. This should be a complete hands-on experience.
- Develop, build & maintain mission critical centralized data platform using Snowflake
- In-depth knowledge of Snowflake account administration, RBAC, and performance optimization
- Diagnose and troubleshoot Snowflake database errors.
- Snowflake user /query log analysis and alerts.
- Demonstrated proficiency of index design, query plan optimization and analysis required.
- User security auditing.
- Implement/support automation for production deployment in Snowflake
