Role Overview
This is a hybrid role that integrates the responsibilities between a surgical consultant and an LPN. The Surgical Consultant/LPN will work closely with the Plastic Surgeon to successfully fulfill all aspects related to aesthetic surgery booking and discussions about cost estimates. In addition, you will also fulfill the duties of an LPN where your primary function will be assisting physicians, preparing exam rooms, taking patient histories and performing skills such as suturing, biopsies, and excisions as directed by the physician while providing excellent care to the patients.
Role Objectives
Surgical Consultant
The Surgical Consultant’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work closely with the Plastic Surgeon and confirm surgical quotations, surgical candidacy and follow up on quotations.
- If alternative appointment arrangement such as virtual consults is required for out of province and country patients, SC will be responsible for coordinating technology for that call.
- Conduct pre-op consultation with patient that involves physical examinations, measurements and ordering diagnostic testing.
- Gather patient information during consultation and initiate booking.
- Educate patient on surgical processes and follow up with patient post-op.
- Surgical Administration tasks such as inventory management, coordinating and follow up on lab tests, record keeping and filing, scheduling and patient documentation management.
- Perform other duties as requested by management and supervisory team.
The Licensed Practical Nurse’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Treat conditions such as acne, eczema, rashes, skin cancer, atopic dermatitis, hair loss, skin infections, etc.
- Observe, assess, monitor, and document patient symptoms, reactions, and progress.
- Perform basic medical and cosmetic procedures, educate and inform patients about self-care, medication management, and disease prevention.
- Responsible for medical device reprocessing between patients to ensure proper sterilization of equipment.
- Council patients in a confidential manner on the details and risks of procedures and treatments.
- Assist physician with charting and billing needs.
- Assist Physicians with biopsies, suturing, and removals.
- Assist in wide local excisions alongside dermatologists.
- Follow clinic protocols to ensure no medical or clerical errors are made.
- Communicate effectively within the nursing team to ensure a cohesive team environment.
- Responsible for clean-up and cleanliness of treatment rooms.
- Follow clinic procedures to ensure medical inventory is accurate and kept up to date.
- Perform other duties as requested by management and supervisory team.
- LPN diploma from an accredited institution.
- Current registration within the provincial licensing body.
- Current CPR certification.
- 2+ years of private or public practice nursing experience.
- 2+ years of Surgical Consultant experience.
- Previous experience in the dermatology sector (preferred).
- Experience using MedAccess (preferred).
- Experience with CRM tracking.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work as a team and independently.
- Flexible availability, willingness to work weekends and evenings.
