Responsibilities

What your day will look like

  1. Field Activities
    1. Complete field activities in accordance with established health and safety protocols.
    2. Coordinate and complete contaminated sites projects, including Phase I, II & III Environmental Site Assessments, hydrogeological investigations, soil/groundwater/surface water/sediment/soil vapour sampling programs, and contaminated site remediation projects.
    3. Coordinate and complete designated hazardous substance surveys including asbestos and lead sampling and assist in air emissions testing programs.
    4. Complete documentation of field activities, site health and safety meetings, and chain of custody forms.
    5. Assist in supporting environmental assessment reports, including: data tables, borehole logs, test pit logs, GIS/CAD, etc.
    6. Operate, calibrate, and maintain project specific equipment.
  2. Project Coordination
    1. Coordinate with laboratories, clients, subcontractors, third-party stakeholders.
    2. Compile and analyse data.
    3. Contribute to the preparation of project proposals and presentations, and client liaison.
    4. Assist in report writing and preparation of technical memos, letters, reports, spreadsheets and figures including data tables and borehole/test pit logs.
    5. Coordinate and manage project tasks, budgets and schedules.
    6. Assist project managers, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams.

Qualifications
  • Degree in environmental engineering, environmental sciences, or geology.
  • Entry level position but up to 2 years of experience in environmental consulting will be an asset.
  • Strong work ethic with genuine interest in environmental consulting and field work.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated abilities to work in a multidisciplinary team and independently.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel and Word.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Comfortable with use and operation of a 4X4 truck in an off-road environment.
  • willingness to work remotely in the field for up to two weeks.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Ability to work alone with guided direction or partial supervision.
Experience

Experience in any of the following would be considered an asset:

  • Experience working around heavy equipment, including drill rigs and excavators.
  • Phased Environmental Site Assessment and remediation and/or hazardous building material surveys.
  • Soil and groundwater/surface water sampling.
  • Experience with groundwater monitoring, including conducting slug tests and using data loggers.
  • Knowledge in several of: geology, hydrogeology, environmental sampling procedures, environmental chemistry, site characterization, waste management, remediation, and health and safety.
  • Proficiency in ESdat, Surfer, gINT or database abilities will be an asset.
