Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Team Lead is a key member of the accounting team and is responsible for managing the commercial accounting division. The successful candidate will ensure accurate and timely monthly financial reporting and will demonstrate a keen attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to meeting deadlines. This position will possess excellent analytical capacities and financial accounting skills. The candidate will be counted on to improve business processes and will actively support the objectives of the Commercial Construction and Asset Management divisions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all financial reporting functions, including timely and accurate reporting for all corporate commercial assets.
  • Manage month-end closing procedures to ensure a timely and accurate month-end closing process.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages and other ad hoc reports for the management team.
  • Oversee and support the compilation of the year-end financial reporting packages for the external accountants.
  • Implementation and management of internal controls, business processes and procedures.
  • Assist and update when required monthly/quarterly updates to proforma forecasts.
  • Prepare GST filings and manage online communication.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budget and updates of monthly reviews.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual operating expense budget.
  • Liaise between accounting department, asset management division as well as estimating and construction departments to ensure accuracy of job cost and proper approvals.
  • Assist with special projects, assignments and Ad hoc requests.

Qualifications

  • 5 + years' experience in Full cycle accounting.
  • Highly detail oriented with a sense of urgency in meeting regular monthly deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral.
  • A strong commitment to teamwork and initiative.
  • Technical savvy with a high level of computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Sage 300 and Yardi Voyageur
  • Experience with commercial construction and/or property management
  • CPA designation, accounting diploma or equivalent
