Director, Procurement

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Engineering & Operations, the Director, Procurement will lead the company’s supply chain requirements to support planning, scheduling, and the execution of timely purchasing and delivery of goods and services required for the Rook I Project.



Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Responsible for ensuring that established policies, plans, processes, procedures, and systems for contracting and purchasing are followed with a focus on their ability to enhance organization value and efficiency.
  • Development and implementation of the company’s procurement strategies.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the procurement module within the SAP by Design Enterprise Resource Planning (“ERP”) system, including the processes and procedures with focus on process optimization.
  • Lead the development of the company’s procurement strategies and plans including the development of leading and lagging supply metrics to help drive performance.
  • Governance role with external service providers related to the supply chain and procurement activities on the Rook I project.
  • Responsible for the complete procurement life cycle for the company's procured packages.
  • Leading the development and provide training to the company's team (including Project Development, Exploration, Community and Engagement) on procurement policies and associated processes and procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of commercial, legal, risk, insurance, environment, health and safety issues and provide advice to the team to ensure the company’s liabilities are minimized.
  • Establish and negotiate commercial terms and conditions for procurement packages that are aligned with the company’s objectives. Where necessary, consult directly with external legal support and senior leadership to minimize project and corporate risk while maintaining commercial competitiveness.
  • Represent the company in negotiating purchases from vendors.
  • Working with the company's Community and Regional Development teams, understand the obligations under the various Benefit Agreements and ensure these are reflected in all procurement processes.
  • Coach other team members on contract and procurement best practices.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with vendors and suppliers, including a lead role in the local and Indigenous business plans.
  • Interface regularly with project staff at all levels in relation to procurement, change management, and risk management.
  • Provide feedback to assist in analyzing market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability.
  • Accountable for projections, financial planning, expediting, delivery schedules and project procurement reporting.
  • Interface with the finance and project controls team on budget and cost control.
Education & Experience:

  • Relevant university degree with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in procurement, contracts and supply chain management, or appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Mining industry or large capital project experience is considered an asset.
  • Proven team leadership, able to work with project team members at all levels to meet deliverable deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience and advanced working knowledge of ERP procurement systems.
  • Supply chain certifications such as APICS or SCMP are considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Excel) with general knowledge of database utilization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and demonstrated safety leadership.
