TSSA is seeking a Supervisor of Data Operations to join our Strategic Analytics department, located at their headquarters in west Toronto. The successful candidate will join a team of passionate and skilled professionals who are committed to serving people of Ontario

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Data Operations, this role is responsible for overseeing the data engineering efforts which enables our company-wide data storage and reporting solution. In this role you will work with a variety of tools to develop, implement, and maintain scalable data pipelines, data warehouse, and data lakes. You'll collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and help them access and analyze data efficiently. You'll also mentor your team of data engineers and BI developers, provide technical guidance and best practices, and ensure that our data platform is reliable, scalable, and secure.

This role is critical in improving and enhancing the utilization of data and analytical tools for strategic decision making at all levels of the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee TSSA’s data management and reporting architecture (TSSA Analytics Platform), ensure it is regularly reviewed to meet current and future needs
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes
  • Develop and implement data warehouses and data lakes on Azure to store and manage TSSA transactional and historical/legacy data
  • Perform various data manipulations such as data profiling, data standardization / validation / cleansing, root cause analysis / remediation, metadata management, reference and master data management.
  • Implement data security and privacy measures as per guidelines provided by TSSA and best practices
  • Act as a subject matter expert on data management and reporting, providing guidance and support to others as needed
  • Mentor and guide team members, provide technical leadership and best practices, and promote a culture of innovation and continuous learning
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, to understand business needs and to deliver high-quality data products and services

Job Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team of individuals with diverse backgrounds
  • Strong experience in data engineering and software development, with expertise in at least one programming language
  • Experience with data warehousing and data modeling techniques
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across different teams and functions
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data problems and design effective solutions
  • Ability to support the team in establishing project plans and milestone goals and monitor them to completion

Functional Competencies and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 6+ years of experience in data engineering or software development, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role
  • Experience with Azure platform solutions
  • Advanced skills in logical/conceptual data modeling
  • Expert knowledge of relational SQL databases and SQL in at least one of the following environments: Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools like Excel and Power BI
  • Experience in Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Microsoft DevOps, Scribe, Epicor Financial Management, FinancialForce Human Capability Management, and SharePoint is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in R and/or Python is an asset
  • Familiarity with data security and compliance measures is an asset
