Job Description

The Opportunity

Group Accounting is focused on ensuring the quality of our financial reporting and controls, including external communications and reporting, global accounting policy, reporting systems, processes, and controls. The Capital Accounting, Reporting & Control team ensures accuracy and consistency for the consolidation of all Manulife companies for our externally reported accounting basis (currently IFRS 17), capital transactions, closing of the consolidated balance sheet, and special projects.

The Director, Capital Accounting, Reporting & Control reports to the AVP, Capital Accounting, Reporting & Control and will be involved in various initiatives to improve financial reporting and control processes across the organization. This position requires a strong background in accounting, analysis, and control, along with initiative, technical and analytical expertise, and a solid understanding of financial processes.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation or review of monthly/quarterly adjustments for FX accounting for non-functional currency loans.
  • Preparation or review of entries related to the intercompany loan process.
  • Assistance in the quarterly close process.
  • Assistance in the SOX control process.
  • Preparation or review of schedules for external and regulatory reporting.
  • Assistance in establishing and/or streamlining standard processes and improving controls.
  • Advisory and support to segment and functional teams.

Challenges

  • Analyzing and improving complex financial processes.
  • Developing financial processes with limited resources.
  • Working with incomplete information to address issues with financial information.
  • Unplanned requests for information and analysis.
  • Collaboration with project stakeholders across the company.

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong financial background with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in project management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Strong personal computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent.
  • Accounting designation (CPA).
  • Experience in consolidation and FX accounting.
  • Life insurance experience is an asset.

Salary and Benefits

The annual base salary for this position is between $103,050.00 CAD - $185,490.00 CAD, depending on market conditions and individual qualifications.
