THE ROLEThe Business Relation Manager position has the accountability to drive strategic engagement with Growth and Generation business units to align their strategy and vision with I&T priorities and objectives for the purpose of delivering technology solutions that enable value for TransAlta.
WHAT YOU WILL DOHere is the great work you will get to do and be responsible for:
- Lead the development and implementation of multi-year business technology roadmaps that align to business vision and I&T strategic imperatives.
- Collaborate with I&T solutioning and subject matter experts to ensure solution concepts align with business strategy, emerging technology trends, and I&T enterprise architecture governance.
- Leverage knowledge of the business, industry, and leading-edge technological solutions to identify opportunities for using technology to transform the way the business operates.
- Understand industry trends, competition, and future direction; leverage what others are doing to bring innovative ideas to the organization.
- Influence business and I&T stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization to move forward with technology initiatives.
- Solve issues and challenges such as differing agendas, political considerations, and resistance to change.
- Act as the key liaison across all functional areas, including business units, I&T organization, and vendor partners.
- Possess strong analytical skills, including an understanding of business economics and financial resources.
- Understand main business activities for each business unit and associated I&T services required to complete each business activity.
- Utilize the appropriate technologies and ensure that the business have the solutions they need, when they need them.
- Work with the IT Delivery team to prioritize execution of projects across IT organization.
- Accountable for the launch of solutions and help to maximize the positive impact on the organization.
- Ensure that the project team provide regular reports regarding project status, issues, and changes.
- Work with business analysts, project managers and the business to ensure project requirements are well understood, documented, and approved by all stakeholders.
- Participate in strategic and budgetary planning processes.
- Act as an escalation point for major issues related to I&T services.
- Act as an advocate for the business.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from a college or university or 5+ years of IT and business/industry work experience, with at least 3 years of leadership experience.
- Knowledge of Generation, Project Development, Project Engineering, Land, and Renewable Energy from a business perspective would be an asset.
- 7-10 years project management experience leading business and IT programs/projects.
- 5+ years of IT and/or business work experience with a broad range of exposure to various technical environments and business segments.
- Leading and motivating teams of IT and business professionals.
- Building trust between technical and business stakeholders.
- Running focused, disciplined teams and meetings through periods of competing priorities.
- Identify and implement productivity improvement initiatives.
- Capture and apply lessons learned.
- Monitor, analyze and forecast business performance.
- Identify and mitigate risks / realize opportunities.
- Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and maintain a cooperative working relationship with peer groups and teams.
- Flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations.
- Resilient and tenacious with a propensity to persevere.
Must be a team player and able to work collaboratively with and through others.
