GridGear Solutions is seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer (energy metering) to join our product research and development team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and testing new products, such as electrical meters, prototyping hardware, and firmware. This role will involve working in an electrical lab primarily focused on designing energy monitoring hardware and software. This candidate will report to the CEO, but largely work independently, periodically collaborating with other team members. The ability to manage additional engineering resources/teams and strong communication skills are critical.

About GridGear Solutions:

GridGear Solutions is a manufacturer of revenue grade electricity submetering equipment. Our small team consists of forward-thinking individuals working together to meet a common goal. Our progressive outlook allows us to provide our customers with the best products and services the submetering industry has to offer.

Electrical submetering measures the individual electrical load of residential or industrial units or equipment behind the master utility meter; it can also monitor loads such as machinery, solar panels, car chargers, etc.

Responsibilities [focus on new product development]:

  • Product Development: Design, develop, and update new and existing products for the electrical metering market.
  • Production process engineering: Consistent evaluation and improvement of existing manufacturing methods.
  • Testing: Develop and use testing procedures to maintain product accuracy and performance.
  • Firmware Development: Evaluation and improvement of existing firmware and analysis of new potential firmware features.
  • Documentation: Create technical documentation for current tasks and product development.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with team members within GridGear as well as managing external engineering resources to move product development forward.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience: Experience within the electrical metering industry is ideal but not mandatory. A strong grasp of building power/distribution systems is valuable but not required. Would like at least 5 years of work experience in relevant or related disciplines.
  • Technical Skills: Ideally well-rounded. Circuit design, mechanical design, software and firmware development, electrical testing, magnetic analysis, machining are all common tasks.
  • Programming Skills: Familiarity with Assembler and Python for interacting and improving existing hardware. Additional languages + proficiencies are a bonus with new product development.
  • Innovation: Consistent commitment to improving our product, manufacturing processes, auxiliary (testing) hardware, documentation/material is an important part of our culture.
  • Industry knowledge: Maintain a competent level of knowledge of embedded systems and electrical submetering.
  • Ability to work independently: Be able to work efficiently and effectively under minimal supervision.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $100,000/year
