The Opportunity

Aecon Industrial brings seamless solutions to key clients through operational excellence and reliability. With the ability to self-perform across our diverse business offering and a strategic fabrication network, Aecon Industrial proactively and profitably manages projects across a diverse range of industrial business areas (Renewable Energy, Natural Gas Distribution, Oil and Gas, Water, Mining, Cogeneration Energy, Chemical, etc.).

Aecon Industrial is also known for pioneering prefabricated piping services to better manage site labour and the integration of specialized coating systems into the fabrication process. Aecon Industrial currently has a full-time permanent position open for a Piping Estimator, located in our Cambridge Office.

Reporting to the Estimating Director, the Piping Estimator will be responsible for the generation of accurate and timely cost estimates for assigned projects. The Estimator will deliver properly organized estimates, budgets, and schedules, while managing Aecon’s risk.

What you'll do here:
  1. Analyzes documents, specifications, proposals, and addendums in preparation for pricing.
  2. Performs quantity take-off from construction drawings.
  3. Obtains pricing from suppliers and incorporates it into the estimate.
  4. Formulates all costs for tender submission – labour, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts.
  5. Accountable for accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
  6. Assists with Prequalification submissions, RFQ’s, and RFI’s as required.
  7. Obtains input from Operations staff as appropriate.
  8. Reviews project site prior to price preparation, as required.
  9. Performs Post Bid / Post Project Analysis completion and ensures that associated learning and communication takes place.
  10. Collects data and reports on established business Key Performance Indicators.
  11. Maintains files and correspondence on active and completed estimates.
  12. Provides estimating support to field staff, as required.
  13. Drives Estimating process/procedure compliance and consistency.
  14. Incorporates/complies with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
  15. Drives positive relationships and serves as a contact with key subcontractors.
  16. Maintains Estimating data systems to ensure they are kept up to date.
What you bring to the team:
  1. Prior Piping Estimating / Operational experience is an asset.
  2. Red Seal Certification would be an asset.
  3. Experience navigating and retrieving data from 3D Models would be an asset.
  4. Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
  5. Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and basic accounting/reporting principles is an asset.
  6. Strong computer skills – MS Excel, Word, Project, P6, Sharepoint, Bluebeam, and estimating software (Accubid).
  7. Strong communication skills – oral and written.
  8. Ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure.
  9. Adaptable to a flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
  10. Ability to work with others as a team.
