We will invest in change-making, working with Canadian philanthropic, political, and business partners to ensure that Black-led and Black-serving organizations have the sustained resources they need to make a meaningful impact.Position Overview The Director of Community Impact oversees all aspects of the operational administration of FFBC’s grant making activities and is responsible for both short- and long-term strategy for grants management. This role is ideal for someone passionate about trust-based philanthropy and committed to centering equity in funding practices. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills and a dedication to providing excellent customer service to FFBC staff, grantee partners, and applicants. This is a highly strategic role that demands strategic planning, resourcefulness, and exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills. The Director reports directly to the CEO and collaborates closely with the COO and other senior management team members. Responsibilities
Funding Administration and Management
- Design and manage the full lifecycle of all granting from concept through all diligence and compliance processes to reporting and granting close.
- Develop and maintain clear and concise grant making administration policies, procedures, and manuals for staff, Board members, grantee partners; conduct trainings for key partners as needed.
- Standardize and consistently refine key granting processes and protocols (e.g., agreements, reporting requirements, demographic questions, application requirements) so that they best reflect FFBC’s goals and are grounded in feedback from applicants, partners, and staff.
- Oversee compliance, organizational, and financial due diligence on potential granting recipients in Canada to ensure application completeness and adherence with legal requirements and internal guidelines.
- Provide timely communication with funding applicants regarding the funding process and with grantee and partners post-award, especially for payment, agreement, and legal questions.
- Coordinate with Finance, Legal and Program teams to ensure timely execution of payment, compliance, and audit activities.
- Provide leadership on day-to-day operations of grants management, ensuring that operations fully reflect FFBC’s goals and values.
- Review and refine FFBC’s Monitoring Learning and Evaluation approach to streamline data collection, management and sharing.
- Collaborate with COO and Director of Finance on short- and long-term budget planning.
- Provide oversight of Grants Management System, in collaboration with IT and Social Impact colleagues.
- Ensure all grant and investment-related information is maintained in relevant databases and tools (e.g., SurveyMonkey Apply, Amp Impact, Salesforce).
- Lead in preparing Board dockets and recommendation materials.
- Prepare analyses and reporting on key performance indicators relevant to the grant portfolio.
- Assist with capturing learnings from FFBC’s experiences developing its granting processes and policies so as to disseminate these to the wider philanthropic sector with support from Communications colleagues.
- Represent FFBC at external events, working groups, and other forums to share our approach to trust-based philanthropy and centering equity in grants management.
- Ensure that accurate and timely financial and operational data on pre-award and post-award funding is maintained and available for budget tracking, Board reporting, compliance, and other needs.
- Manage and mentor Grants Management staff and undergraduate and/or graduate interns, ensuring they effectively administer grants management and supporting their professional development.
- Manage budget and vendors related to FFBC’s funding administration, governance, and grants management information systems.
Bilingual Proficiency
- Fluently bilingual in reading, writing, and speaking is required.
- Proven ability to manage and mentor teams
- Experience with disbursing resources and managing budgets.
- Strong analytical and evaluative skills.
- Knowledge of the charitable sector and key issues, including social change and regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency in grant-making processes and the ability to prepare and review reports/financials.
- Experience in project and/or program management, development, planning, and evaluation.
- Extensive experience with MS Office suite and competence in using CRM databases.
- Relevant field, work, or educational experience.
- Ability to build and enhance relationships with key stakeholders including grant awardees
- Confident public speaking and community convening skills.
- Strong analytical, research, and report writing skills.
- Experience in anti-oppression, decolonization and anti-racism frameworks, etc.
- Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating outcome measurements.
- Grantmaking experience within the not-for-profit or public sector preferred.

- Superviser le respect de la conformité, ainsi le processus de diligence raisonnable en matière d’organisation et de finances par rapport aux titulaires potentiels de subventions au Canada afin de veiller à ce que la demande soit complète et qu'elle respecte les exigences légales et les directives internes.
- Communiquer en temps utile avec les demandeurs de financement concernant le processus de financement et avec les titulaires et les partenaires après l'octroi des subventions, en particulier pour les questions juridiques et relatives aux paiements et aux accords.
