Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the PHC-NP Consultant provides expert advice, recommendations and strategic advice to the Chief Nursing Officer and Assistant Deputy Minister Operations, on matters related to the design, delivery and utilization of primary health care services in the health centre setting. Through effective planning, implementing, and monitoring practices, the incumbent ensures that primary health care services are designed and delivered efficiently, effectively and meet the needs of Nunavummiut.

Key Responsibilities Of The Successful Candidate Will Also Include:
  • Supporting clinical nursing service excellence by developing, monitoring, maintaining and evaluating: the clinical Primary Health Care nursing roles; the clinical nursing practice competencies for primary care; the clinical policies, medical directives and decision-making tools which support the primary care nursing staff in the health centre setting;
  • Developing and implementing the territorial community Nurse Practitioner Program;
  • Conducting health surveillance and preventative activities that may improve the health of the population;
  • Maintaining clinical competence and expertise within the scope of a Nurse Practitioner by fulfilling clinical rotations in the health centre setting;
  • Providing expert and specialized knowledge of primary health care related to nursing in Nunavut;
  • Responding to unexpected surges in community health centres as part of the rapid deployment nursing team.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a Nurse Practitioner (NP) certificate with a minimum of three (3) years Nurse Practitioner clinical experience. Must be eligible to register as an NP with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN). Northern or rural/remote practice experience is considered an asset.

This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

For full-time, permanent nurses, recruitment bonuses include: $5,000 on start date, $5,000 at 18 months of service and $10,000 at 30 months of service. Additional premium includes $375 Monthly Retention Bonus.
