Our client, a professional services firm, is seeking a Controller. This role will support the Director of Finance by providing top-notch accounting, financial reporting, and analysis services and ensuring our financial policies, systems, and practices are accurate, compliant, and form the basis for strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Analysis:

  • Create financial models and perform complex analyses to uncover insights.
  • Report findings to diverse stakeholders clearly and meaningfully.
  • Anticipate, analyze, and communicate financial impacts, optimizing resource use and profitability.
  • Support decision-making with various reports, including firm performance, profitability, and cost efficiency reviews.

Financial Leadership:

  • Oversee the full accounting cycle, including consolidation across multiple entities.
  • Develop sustainable financial models, budgets, and quarterly forecasts.
  • Evaluate and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide accurate financial reporting to the COO.
  • Research and recommend solutions for accounting, tax, and compliance issues.
  • Enhance systems and processes for accuracy and customer service.
  • Implement changes and upgrades to financial systems with minimal disruption.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators for accounting functions.

Management:

  • Coach and manage Accounting staff, ensuring professional growth and accuracy.
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable & Collections, Accounts Payable, and general accounting functions.
  • Delegate tasks to meet annual goals and maintain high standards.
  • Foster a culture of excellence and superior customer service.
  • Maintain and update accounting policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with external auditors, clients, and suppliers.
  • Contribute to strategic and operating plans, risk mitigation, and overall firm oversight.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • University degree and professional accounting designation.
  • Strong analytical skills with a minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience.
  • At least two years of managerial experience with a proven ability to lead a large team.
  • Advanced skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Elite 3E or similar ERP software and SQL.
  • Experience in a professional services environment is a strong asset.
