We are currently looking for a Specialist – Customer Logistics Planning based out of St. Thomas, ON

Our mission has started. Volkswagen Group’s largest cell factory in St. Thomas will carry out all battery activities – from processing raw materials to developing a unified Volkswagen battery to managing the European and North American gigafactories. Headquartered in Salzgitter, Germany, we are experiencing the transformation of mobility up close. Our goal is to contribute a positive impact to our global society, the environment, and the economy. We are looking for a Specialist – Customer Logistics Planning, to plan, define, and implement outbound/customer logistics processes such as ordering, shipping, or claim management for the PowerCo SE facility in St. Thomas. Reporting to the Head of Logistics, you will support and contribute to the PowerCo SE logistics team to achieve the objectives of the logistics rollout project at the St. Thomas facility.

This is a temporary flex hybrid model requiring 2 days in the St. Thomas office, subject to change based on the needs and nature of this project. During certain phases of the build, a full-time onsite presence may be a requirement .

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Implement and localize PowerCo SE standard logistics processes and information flows with the focus on outbound/customer logistics for the St. Thomas facility.
  • Suggest, define and align local adaptations to outbound/customer logistics processes based on standards and concepts provided by PowerCo SE in Germany, continually improving for increased efficiency and ensuring scalability.
  • Define regional guidelines for all partners in the distribution chain for a standardized process for customer service at the PowerCo SE St. Thomas facility, in alignment with PowerCo SE headquarters.
  • Detailed alignment of processes with North American and overseas customers regarding customer orders, communication, shipments, documentation, packaging, labelling, transportation, and claims management. Alignment and coordination with internal departments and PowerCo SE headquarters.
  • Plan, define, and implement import and export processes for the PowerCo SE facility in St. Thomas in alignment with other internal departments, external service providers, and in accordance with Canadian customs regulations.
  • Participate within the different project phases by fulfilling all defined milestones within logistics including the final implementation, ramp-up, and go live, including continuous improvement of processes during series production.
  • Work closely with production steering to align customer demands with manufacturing schedules, implement improvements to streamline material flows and reduce lead times, and facilitate communication between customers, logistics, and production departments to address challenges and ensure synchronization.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to integrate logistics systems with other factory management systems, and define requirements for IT solutions supporting the logistics processes.
  • Anticipate and mitigate potential risks in material flows and logistics processes while developing contingency plans to address unforeseen challenges.
  • Initiate and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance logistics planning and execution.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of logistics plans, implementation schedules, and performance metrics and provide regular reports on key logistics performance indicators.
  • Implement best practices within and beyond at the PowerCo SE facility in St. Thomas and staying informed about industry trends.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments within the PowerCo SE facility in St. Thomas, Volkswagen Group Canada, and PowerCo SE headquarters.
  • Miscellaneous logistics rollout-related tasks as required.

Qualifications:

Required Skills:

  • Post-Secondary Education in Business Administration, Logistics, Operations Management, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • 5+ years’ experience of working in a an outbound/customer logistics planning function, ideally within a large, global organization.
  • 5+ years’ experience with import and export operations
  • Extensive experience of working with SAP modules PP (Production Planning) and SD (Sales and Distribution)
  • Experience in working in corporate suppliers-customer relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in an environment of shifting priorities, timelines and occasional ambiguity.
  • A global mindset, with a customer driven approach and ability to build trust and relationships.
  • Experience in battery or battery cell logistics or handling hazardous goods would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to travel both within Canada/US and internationally up to ~ 10%
  • German language skills are considered an asset.
