Sivec Search Partners is excited to support Légère Reeds Ltd. - a grass roots Canadian small business success - in their search for a Finance Lead (CFO). Founded in 1998 by Dr. Guy Légère and Dr. Mark Kortschot - who used their knowledge of synthetic materials to change the musical instrument industry forever - Légère Reeds produces state-of-the-art synthetic reeds in an industry traditionally dominated by cane reed producers. Distributed worldwide through the Toronto-based sales office, the reeds are produced in an ultra-modern manufacturing and distribution facility in Barrie, Ontario. The Company was recently purchased by the private equity backed Music Center based in Trento, Italy which has positioned Légère Reeds for a new phase of growth. The company is seeking a Finance Lead to spearhead its financial strategy and optimize the day-to-day finance processes.


Reporting directly to the President, the Finance Lead will create financial reports, performance indicators and variance analyses to support financial and operational efficiencies and effectiveness. They will develop, from the ground up, a financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting function to provide key data for decision making and ensure alignment with business goals while maintaining the day-to-day financial function for the Company.


This is an operational finance role, engaged in the daily sales and operations of the organization and as a business partner to the senior leadership team, the strategic business owners and the lenders. The Finance Lead will also be responsible for the reporting and controls for a US subsidiary of the Music Center. As the Canadian and US businesses continue to scale, the finance leader will provide foresight to infrastructure and operational needs to support the North American growth platform.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all administrative and accounting aspects of the company (AP, AR, tax accounting, payroll statutory FS, etc.), coordinating a small team of resources
  • Manage all tax matters including compliance, reporting, audits/assessments, transfer pricing
  • Oversee all payroll matters and related information
  • Coach and mentor the Finance, Accounting and payroll team along with other adjacent staff to ensure personal goals and are set and met as the organization continues to grow
  • Manage all financial, managerial and operational reporting activities for the organization including monthly financial statements, managerial reports, KPIs and required disclosures
  • Develop and manage the entire planning cycle of the Company including long term planning, annual budgeting and monthly forecasting including any variance analysis (actual and target)
  • Prime contact for any report/disclosure/data requested by the Italian HQ (Italian PE firm reporting, group financial institutions covenant check, ESG indicators, Head Count trend, etc.)
  • Cash flow management including inventory, A/R and A/P responsibility and monitoring all banking activities; developing a strong relationship with the organization’s bank
  • Oversee procurement and management of product inventory, managing turnover, utilization and obsolescence and drive working capital optimization
  • Monitoring daily bank balances, retaining full bank signing authority, issuing payments
  • Processing all government remittances and actioning CRA notices
  • Maintaining, reconciling and filing all CRA payroll, WSIB and EHT remittances
  • Manage risk elements including safeguarding assets, insurance and external audits
  • Provide support on any business development activities (financial, operational, HR, IT) including contract negotiations
  • Support IT matters to contribute to efficiency and growth of the operations, cost effectively and securely, with high involvement in systems revamping
  • Be a sounding board for senior management issues and projects, assist in analyzing projects; the role may include in the future Directorship of the Company and Power of Attorney
  • Oversee and manage the calculation of the Executive Earn Out
  • Support the Global Group CFO in all planning and control of the US subsidiary


CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration and a professional accounting designation (CPA) – an MBA would be an asset
  • 10+ years in a finance or accounting environment with progressive leadership roles – experience with multi-jurisdictional reporting requirements is a plus

  • Oversee regular, ad-hoc and flexible reporting to a variety of stakeholders
  • High ethical values contributing to a culture of continuous improvement, fostering openness, adaptability and flexibility across the Company
  • Experience working closely with the C-Suite including the President, other operational leaders, Company owners and private equity
  • Experience working in a multi-functional environment including operations, purchasing, distribution and sales
  • Strong technical accounting, analytical, payroll and tax skills and the proven ability to apply those skills to evaluate business issues
  • Demonstrated leadership in cash and working capital management and treasury functions
  • Industry experience working in product manufacturing and distribution
  • Strong working knowledge of ASPE standards; knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS is a plus
  • Experience leading inter-company pricing across multiple jurisdictions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems; strong knowledge of Acumatica is a plus
