Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for: The effectiveness of the Health and Safety program for the site. Is the workplace Management Representative for the MOL.

  1. Administers Workers Compensation claims and reports.
  2. Oversee administration of WSIB program.
  3. Manages early and safe return to work program, claims management, and modified duties program for injured employees.
  4. Identifies Safety training needs and delivers/facilitates various skill-building programs to employees and managers to reach objectives.
  5. Actively participates in monthly inspections and safety talks.
  6. Creates and reviews policies and procedures and implements changes.
  7. Conducts risk assessments to ensure compliance with corporate policies.
  8. Facilitates root cause analysis and action plan development for all recordable incidents (Kaizen/Deming).
  9. Tracks the progress of action plans and provides updates to the management team.
  10. Ensures required training is assigned and completed by employees.
  11. Reviews contractor safety guidelines and practices to ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory policies.
  12. Organizes plant Safety Committee, reviews committee audits and findings, and implements recommendations as applicable.
  13. Builds the site safety culture and promotes a safe working environment.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
  15. Meets/Exceeds requirements for food and employee safety.
About You:
  1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related field of study.
  2. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an occupational health and safety role.
  3. Excellent knowledge of governing occupational health and safety applicable federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
  4. Experience with WSIB claims and return-to-work plans.
  5. Ability to professionally manage highly sensitive & confidential information.
  6. Ability to lead and influence others in a positive manner.
  7. Ability to remain calm under pressure; comfortable addressing difficult situations.
  8. Self-motivated; action and result-oriented; able to multitask and manage/drive multiple projects simultaneously.
  9. Detail-oriented and organized.
  10. Strong prioritization, decision-making, and follow-up skills.
  11. Ability to offer and promote a high level of internal customer service.
  12. Ability to work with diverse personalities and multiple levels of employees.
  13. Good listening, fact-finding, conflict management, and interpersonal skills.
  14. Excellent communication skills (presentation, report writing).
  15. Ability to drive projects to completion.
  16. Ability to support a 24/7 work environment.
Additional Information:

Travel requirements: 15% subject to the requirement. Must be able to freely move around the entire facility. Must be comfortable sitting at a computer terminal for long periods of time.
