Responsible for: The effectiveness of the Health and Safety program for the site. Is the workplace Management Representative for the MOL.
- Administers Workers Compensation claims and reports.
- Oversee administration of WSIB program.
- Manages early and safe return to work program, claims management, and modified duties program for injured employees.
- Identifies Safety training needs and delivers/facilitates various skill-building programs to employees and managers to reach objectives.
- Actively participates in monthly inspections and safety talks.
- Creates and reviews policies and procedures and implements changes.
- Conducts risk assessments to ensure compliance with corporate policies.
- Facilitates root cause analysis and action plan development for all recordable incidents (Kaizen/Deming).
- Tracks the progress of action plans and provides updates to the management team.
- Ensures required training is assigned and completed by employees.
- Reviews contractor safety guidelines and practices to ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory policies.
- Organizes plant Safety Committee, reviews committee audits and findings, and implements recommendations as applicable.
- Builds the site safety culture and promotes a safe working environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Meets/Exceeds requirements for food and employee safety.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related field of study.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an occupational health and safety role.
- Excellent knowledge of governing occupational health and safety applicable federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
- Experience with WSIB claims and return-to-work plans.
- Ability to professionally manage highly sensitive & confidential information.
- Ability to lead and influence others in a positive manner.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure; comfortable addressing difficult situations.
- Self-motivated; action and result-oriented; able to multitask and manage/drive multiple projects simultaneously.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Strong prioritization, decision-making, and follow-up skills.
- Ability to offer and promote a high level of internal customer service.
- Ability to work with diverse personalities and multiple levels of employees.
- Good listening, fact-finding, conflict management, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills (presentation, report writing).
- Ability to drive projects to completion.
- Ability to support a 24/7 work environment.
Travel requirements: 15% subject to the requirement. Must be able to freely move around the entire facility. Must be comfortable sitting at a computer terminal for long periods of time.
