Job Summary:

As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Vice-President - Finance is responsible for ensuring the financial integrity of the organization, assuming ownership of the finance function, managing the accounting, payroll/benefits and administration teams at various levels and providing forward-looking strategic direction to help improve the business. All functions below are applicable to both our Canadian and U.S. entities and there is no cross-border distinction in terms of scope of responsibility in our organization.

  1. Oversee accounting operations for head office and holding company entities including AR, AP, GL, to ensure completeness and accuracy on a monthly basis.
  2. Oversee the consolidation of financial reports from all corporate entities on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  3. Provide strategy, organization and execution for year-end accounting preparation and review throughout the organization. Coordinate with and manage third party accounting consultants in year-end reviews.
  4. Manage all tax functions including preparation of tax returns, tax compliance, sales tax matters, transfer pricing, SRED and government grants and providing high-level tax analysis, strategies and monitoring. Coordinate and manage third party tax accountants and consultants.
  5. Manage the head office accounting support and audit functions with respect to the operating companies, including working collaboratively with finance and operational leaders within our operating companies to train and onboard new controllers and ensure statement accuracy for all subsidiary entities.
  6. Develop corporate accounting policies and procedures and ensure accurate communication throughout our organization.
  7. Participate in head office communications and outreach programs to train and inform our decentralized organization.
  8. Lead payroll and benefits administration, procurement and management throughout the organization. This includes global oversight of all salary payroll, our global Canadian benefits programs, our US 401k program and our group health benefits plan in the US.
  9. Management of our corporate insurance program.
  10. Participate in M&A related accounting due diligence and new business integration.
  11. Implement and maintain a strong internal controls environment to safeguard company assets including credit monitoring/approvals and fraud detection.
  12. Oversee corporate banking/bonding and general treasury functions.
  13. As a key member of the management team, participate in the identification, prioritization, and management of continuous improvement activities in support of improved business performance.
  14. Participate in the development of business strategy and strategic planning, both short and long-term.
  15. Build, manage, retain, and oversee the team, providing continuous coaching and mentorship.
  16. Ensure that regular on-going communication occurs with colleagues to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performance.
  17. Conduct employee reviews, providing feedback and soliciting employee feedback.

Qualifications:

  1. University degree in Business/Accounting.
  2. CPA designation.
  3. 10+ years of progressive accounting experience along with Director level (or higher) experience leading a finance and accounting team.
  4. Superior communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills and ability to develop consensus among diverse actors rather than dictate direction.
  5. Demonstrable track record of successfully leading teams and managing business change.
  6. Ability to influence colleagues at all levels in an effective and constructive way to facilitate good decision making.
  7. Strong organizational skills with the ability to resolve issues and work within a deadline driven environment.
  8. Highly analytical with a strong attention to detail.
  9. Strong knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE).
  10. Previous management of payroll/benefits functions.
  11. Multi-divisional organizational and consolidation experience.
  12. Strong knowledge of tax accounting and rules.
  13. Experience liaising directly with external audit firms.
  14. Familiarity with M&A, deal valuation, letters of intent and due diligence.
  15. Software/Systems experience (accounting, ERP, Excel, etc.) including software implementation experience.
