Position Summary

The Senior Designer will be responsible for preparing electronic working plans, technical and shop drawings for various railing and architectural projects from preliminary concepts, sketches, calculations, specification sheets and other data. The Detailer will review plans and confer with internal stakeholders to meet project specifications, complete documentation packages, and produce drawing sets.


Responsibilities

  • Design and prepare detailed electronic layouts, parts lists and/or scale drawings for railings and architectural projects from external architectural drawings, measurements, sketches, photos, and specifications.
  • Work closely with both the Project Manager and Fabrication Manager to ensure materials and construction techniques are cost effective and within the project budget.
  • Make basic calculations to determine layouts requirements for structural design.
  • Organize and maintain a design and digital file database for each project.
  • Interface with departmental personnel to obtain details of equipment and materials requirements.
  • Brainstorm as part of a team or developing design concepts using computer-aided design, and other traditional design tools.
  • Facilitate and ensure the quality of design, drawings and graphic work produced within the team.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (AutoCAD 2021) software. Familiarity with 3D modeling software an asset
  • Familiarity with Ontario Building Code.
  • Familiarity with both Metric and Imperial system of measure.
  • Basic math knowledge is needed to calculate dimensions, and requirements in
  • Able to read and interpret architectural drawings and
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, deliver presentations, and demonstrate active listening
  • Ability to multitask, organize project elements, and meet
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
  • Experience with project management skills and the ability to utilize best practices for project management.
  • Ability to be self-directed yet collaborative in dealing with customers and fellow
  • Receptive to change - can adapt to changing

Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years of drafting/design experience in architectural construction or fabrication industry. Experience with design for manufacturing an asset.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) in a professional
  • Experience using Procore as a project management tool is considered an asset.

Education

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Architecture, Industrial Design, Structural Engineering, or similar related field of study.

Other Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Compensation

  • Range $30.00 - $35.00 per hour CAD
