Our client, within Financial Services, has retained us to source a Director, Financial & Strategic Operations. Mandate:

The Director, Finance & Strategic Operations has a key leadership role overseeing operations in the accounting department and partnering with internal stakeholders to ensure reliable, accurate and timely corporate accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, regulatory and internal controls.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Build a high performing team, fostering innovation and service excellence, driven by our client’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Strategically lead the operational finance function in the areas of treasury, tax, pensions, payroll and compensation, to optimize efficiencies and performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, effectiveness, compliance, and internal controls.
  • Partner with the Finance Leadership team on strategic resource planning, annual objectives, and long-term planning of the finance department.
  • Solid finance operations knowledge to translate domain understanding and connect business needs into technical requirements and system capabilities.
  • Plan and execute the annual budget process and forecast updates for areas of responsibility, partnering closely with internal stakeholders and provide related variance analysis.
  • Identify and manage financial risks pertaining to areas of oversight.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements.
  • Support pension governance and oversight and contribute to quarterly Board Committee reporting.
  • Act as Agent of change, and ensure policies and activities align with future needs and utilize technology to create efficiencies.
  • A project driven mindset, open to various projects and initiatives that arise.


Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance coupled with a Professional Accounting Designation
  • 7+ years in a strategic leadership role in financial services, with extensive experience in financial operations, controllership, and payroll.
  • Experience working across departments and engaging with all levels of management.
  • An innovative leader who leads and influences change initiates, with a proven track record of providing strategic leadership allowing for maximum operating potential, while maintaining complete accuracy and reliability of the company’s financial data
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Business Central an asset
  • Experience with UKG Pro or similar human capital management systems an asset.
  • Experience with Adaptive Insights or an automated budgeting and reporting system asset.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including conflict resolution, and people management skills.
