About the role - We are seeking an experienced SAS Consultant with a strong background in data migration, particularly in transitioning from SAS environments to Databricks. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in SAS programming, data integration, and a thorough understanding of Databricks and Apache Spark. You will play a pivotal role in evaluating existing SAS environments, identifying migration opportunities, and ensuring a seamless transition to a modern, scalable Databricks-based architecture.
Responsibilities -
- Evaluate the current SAS environment, including data structures, workflows, dependencies, and integration points.
- Analyze the existing SAS codebase to identify components suitable for migration to Databricks.
- Design, develop, and execute migration strategies to transition SAS workloads to Databricks, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
- Ensure the integrity, consistency, and accuracy of data during the migration process.
- Conduct comprehensive testing to validate the functionality, performance, and accuracy of migrated components.
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks, such as inefficient queries, data pipeline performance issues, or resource contention, during and after migration.
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting expertise to address any challenges encountered in the migration process.
- Collaborate with the Databricks engineering team and stakeholders to design enhancements and implement optimizations based on evolving requirements.
- Document the migration process, including code translations, data transformation logic, and performance benchmarks, to support knowledge transfer and scalability.
- Offer training and mentoring to clients or internal teams to ensure a smooth transition to Databricks.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in Databricks, Apache Spark, and data migration tools to ensure the adoption of best practices.
Required Skills
SAS Expertise:
- Proficiency in SAS programming, including data manipulation, analysis, and reporting using SAS tools.
- Deep knowledge of SAS data structures, macros, procedures, and workflows.
- Understanding of SAS-based ETL processes and integration frameworks.
Databricks and Spark Expertise:
- Hands-on experience with Apache Spark, particularly within the Databricks platform.
- Proficiency in Spark SQL, Python, Scala, or other Databricks-supported programming languages.
- Experience in designing and optimizing data pipelines in a Databricks environment.
Data Engineering and Analytics:
- Strong knowledge of ETL processes, data transformation, and data modeling.
- Familiarity with data warehousing principles and best practices.
Testing and Optimization:
- Proven ability to test and validate large-scale migrations, ensuring performance, functionality, and accuracy.
- Expertise in identifying and resolving performance issues in data pipelines or queries.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Strong interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders, including technical teams, clients, and end-users.
- Ability to create clear and concise documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing.
Experience:
- Minimum of 6+ years in SAS programming, data analysis, or related fields.
- At least 2 years of experience in Databricks, Apache Spark, or a similar cloud-based big data platform.
- Proven track record of successfully migrating workloads from SAS or other legacy systems to modern platforms.
Preferred Skills
- Certification in Databricks or Apache Spark.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Knowledge of automation tools or frameworks for streamlining migration processes.
