How do we work?

As one of the Platform Engineering Team Lead you will have the leadership role to bring the platform vision to reality You will work closely with the other team lead (Poland) and be responsible for guiding and coordinating the efforts and work of the 4 team members located in North America, with focus 50/50 on team management and operational tasks. You will need to be both a visionary architect and hands-on developer of the strategy platform tools.


You will be expected to be highly knowledgeable and well versed in all facets of either cloud and an on premise environment, so if you are one of the first to jump to action and take ownership of infrastructure challenges - we are looking for you You will also work with the team to monitor all aspects of the environments under management (including but not limited to golden signals, associated costs/spend and overall performance). We implement new technologies while ensuring proper testing and documentation and we take pride in delivering a top quality environment for our platform to run in.


We work in On-Call & Triage model managing 24/7 coverage and as we work in a hybrid model, we would like to meet you in the Toronto office 4 times per month.


In this role, you will also:

  • Actively lead, contribute to, and be engaged in the effectiveness of a team including backlog maintenance and budget planning.
  • Work with other technical and non-technical teams within OANDA to deliver a secure, high-availability, fault-tolerant global platform spanning on-premise, multi-cloud environments and SaaS offerings.
  • Provide a platform for application delivery based on modern orchestration and automation tools to enable the product development teams to quickly and safely deploy, while ensuring continued adherence to OANDA’s security and engineering standards.
  • Participate in discussions with the wider OANDA audience (and 3rd party groups when needed) about up and coming or in development projects/products and recognize where there are conflicts between the developing designs and the infrastructure architecture.
  • Create clear, concise documentation and designs, updating existing
  • documentation as necessary.


What skillset you need, to be successful in this role?

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Team Management.
  • 6+ years of professional experience in Python and Bash.
  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, with proficiency in Terraform and Ansible.
  • Strong experience with Cloud Services and providers (GCP especially).
  • Proficient in operating in an on premise datacentre as well (Bare-metal server), this includes, but not limited to: Networking, Storage and Compute, both OS (Windows, Linux) and hardware levels.
  • Mastery of infrastructure services such as AD, LDAP, DNS, NTP, logging, monitoring is also expected.
  • Solid troubleshooting ability and methodology to accomplish daily and routine tasks autonomously
