You would have the opportunity to make an impact on patient and resident-focused health care as a dedicated member of the Linen & Environmental Services (LES) team. LES is a provincial team that is committed to providing supportive patient and resident care through timely and effective portering, cleaning and linen services. This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident, and visitor experience. You possess strong customer service, teamwork, the ability to work alone, and prioritizing skills. The successful candidate also has a patient-first approach and is able to follow oral and written instructions. Motor coordination and hand-eye coordination are needed, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced environment which may be stressful at times. As this position requires a lot of walking and standing, it’s a perfect way to get your steps in, keep your cardio up, and keep in shape while greatly helping Albertans and your healthcare system Please note: This position was developed specifically for weekend work.

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Must be available to work from 10:45pm Friday until 7am Saturday, and Saturday at 10:45pm until 7am on Sunday. This position's rotation contains these two shifts every week and was developed specifically for weekend work. Critical thinking, prioritizing requests, and scheduling time as necessary. Able to work independently and as part of a team, and to work under pressure in emergency situations. Basic proficiency using computers, "rovers" and printers, and familiarity with software platforms, including Outlook.

Knowledge of hospital procedures and equipment operation. Previous hospital experience is an asset. Previous experience as a Service Worker I or related position. A valid WHMIS certificate is an asset. Experience with Connect Care. Trained in the “Move Safe” ergonomic program and the “It’s Your Move” client handling program.
