The Senior Buyer is a senior member of the Purchasing team, responsible for contributing to, and at times overseeing, the team’s sourcing of products, equipment, and specialty items. This position requires the ability to perform strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spending.

What does the Senior Buyer do?

  • Collaborate with the Purchasing Manager to develop and implement procurement strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Maintain good working relationships with the branch network and division managers.
  • Ensure that the right quantity of the right product is in the right place at the right time.
  • Contribute to the team’s ability to achieve rebate targets as set on the annual budget.
  • Support the Purchasing Manager as needed with the administrative oversight of the Purchasing department.
  • Accountable for SKU and Data management.
  • Analyze market trends and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
  • Negotiate best possible pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with vendors.
  • Implement best practices and standard operational procedures to enhance procurement efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Evaluate vendor performance through regular reviews, ensuring compliance with company standards and contract terms.
  • Identify and mitigate procurement risks, including supply chain disruptions and vendor non-compliance.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, such as Sales and Sales Enablement on vendor management and selection.
  • Prepare regular reports on procurement activities, savings achieved, and vendor performance for management review.

What do you need?

  • Post-secondary education in a business-related discipline. Completion of a diploma or degree would be preferred.
  • Janitorial/sanitation industry-specific experience or certification is an asset.
  • 3+ years experience in a Purchasing/Procurement or Buyer role, preferably in a Senior role.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the procurement planning process.
  • Strong interpersonal skills needed to work with internal customers and staff in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Organizational and multitasking skills and the demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects involving large revenues and a high degree of complexity.
  • Strong verbal, written, communication and presentation skills.
