At Baffinland, we work and live beyond the Arctic Circle, mining iron ore at our Mary River property. Located in the Qikiqtani Region on Baffin Island, Nunavut, it’s one of the world’s most captivating and seldom seen destinations and we are looking for people ready to share, build, and grow with our company. Main Accountabilities- Report to department manager and general manager on day to day activities, including manpower management, maintenance, and operational requirements.
- Seek approval from the manager on major decisions that impact the overall department budget.
- Provide clear communication and engage with supervisors and crew on safety, upcoming activities, and changes within the department.
- Review FLRA and JHA to ensure compliance with Health and Safety.
- Manage department’s overall activities including manpower management, resource management, task evaluation and prioritization, asset management, and skills development.
- Coordinate inter-departmental requests to ensure they are well understood and assign priority to supervisors.
- Knowledge of low and medium voltage power distribution including transformers, switchgear, and breaker operation, design, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of PLC and DCS controls.
- Design and coordinate maintenance of electrical utilities and associated power distribution equipment.
- Conduct power system and power quality analysis including bonding and grounding.
- Manage construction projects by in-house associates and trades.
- Ensure compliance with Government, State, and Local regulations and codes.
- Resolve problems using solutions that involve existing or new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
- Forecast operating costs of the department and assist in budget planning.
- Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
- Provide direction and example for interpretation and application of Company policies and procedures to the power distribution activities.
- Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies that may improve operations and develop recommendations accordingly.
- Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed safely.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Company policies and applicable laws.
- Interviews potential employees and makes recommendations to hire qualified candidates.
- Trains and mentors direct employees, including development plans to challenge and promote growth.
- Plans, assigns, and directs related work.
- Monitors progress against production schedules and takes corrective action to ensure timely completion of assignments by engineering personnel.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years' experience as an Electrical Supervisor/Superintendent.
- Minimum 10+ years' experience in the electrical trade.
