Ground Control Technician

Glencore Zinc Canada requires a Ground Control Technician to work in one of their Canadian mining operations. Working closely with an experienced team, you will be directly involved with the design, operation, maintenance and data analysis from a state of the art micro-seismic monitoring system. Through the use of dedicated software ( Mx -RAP), the candidate will assess seismic hazard and authorize re-entry to the mine workings after seismic events or major long-hole blasts. The position will require interaction with equipment vendors, University researchers to deal with ongoing software development and to investigate predictive seismic parameters and trends, and with mine operations personnel on a shift by shift basis to manage exposure to geotechnical risk. Work in the evenings and on weekends using remote networking to assess seismic hazard on the off shifts will be required as necessary.

In addition, assist Operations and Engineering to safely achieve production targets by providing geotechnical services including: ground control instrumentation and analysis; blast monitoring, analysis and design; and support systems quality control. Alternate for Senior Ground Control Engineer/Ground Control Engineer as required.

Qualifications

The ideal Candidate will have:

  • Mining Technician or Technologist degree, or equivalent at a minimum
  • 5-8 years of relevant work experience in an underground mine, using seismic monitoring equipment and interpreting data.
  • Advanced computer skills, including familiarity with ACAD, databases, fibre -optic networks, geotechnical instrumentation, and basic electrical troubleshooting

Familiarity with rock mechanics software and tools.

Strong interpersonal, critical thinking and communication skills.

Ability to work as part of a team and individually in a fast-paced work environment.
