BURNABY HOUSING AUTHORITY

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO)

The Burnaby Housing Authority (BHA) was created to address the growing need for non-market housing in the City of Burnaby. Its mandate is to increase the supply of non-market rental and ownership units, as well as market rental units. It builds on the foundations set by community initiatives such as "Your Voice. Your Home.", the Mayor’s Task Force on Community Housing, the Housing Needs Report, and HOME: Burnaby’s Housing and Homelessness Strategy, focusing on delivering practical solutions to Burnaby's housing challenges.

The BHA is a City-owned, arms-length corporation governed by a board comprised of councillors, staff, and industry experts. The BHA operates similarly to a private developer but benefits from City support through initial funding, expedited permits, and access to City-owned land at reduced costs. With a mandate to complement non-market housing providers, the BHA aims to fill gaps in the housing market and eventually centralize non-market housing administration in the city, all while becoming financially self-sustaining.
