Assistant Product Manager, Strategic Initiatives Team (Plastics)

With a passion sustainability, you will work closely as a member of the Loblaw Plastics and Packaging Team to overhaul our entire Control Brands portfolio towards a recyclable future. The Assistant Product Manager for this multi-year initiative will drive the overall implementation of our packaging sustainability goals across our portfolio of brands that include President’s Choice, PC, No Name, Blue Menu, Farmers Market, Club Pack, PC Organics, Life Brand and Life at Home.
Your ImpactAs a member of the Strategic Initiatives Plastics team in Loblaw Brands, you’ll be instrumental in bringing to life a bold goal to make our packaging more sustainable. The Assistant Product Manager is responsible for the implementation of the project plan to deliver recyclability across a wide range of product categories, liaising with product teams to align on roadmap for material conversions, and understanding where further research and development is required.
You will support the team to execute packaging material conversions through the Loblaw Studio, own the development of project timelines, inform overall reporting of progress, and play a key role in enabling a more sustainable future for our brands.

- Support implementation of a multi-year project plan, with key milestones tracking supplier timelines and change project implementation across a global vendor base
- Help to develop and drive the plan to implement new recyclable packaging standards by 2025
- Work in partnership with a technical support team to identify material conversion opportunities, solutions available, and “unsolveable” opportunities that require further exploration
- Participate in the monthly reviews with individual product teams to update on progress within existing portfolios, advise and support teams on material considerations for new product development, and escalate delays as required
- Support the tracking of planned, in-flight, and completed work as aligned to enterprise plastics and packaging reporting requirements
- Lead weekly and monthly status update meetings with various levels of leadership within the Loblaw Brands team
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure on-time execution of product launches and optimum service levels
- Maintain an understanding of global objectives for material circularity, and global definitions for recyclability
- Post-Secondary education in Business, Marketing or Merchandising preferred
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in excel is an asset
- Project management experience, and experience in the packaging or printing industry is an asset
- Basic knowledge of retail merchandising or product manufacturing processes
- Strong sense of ownership, in order to coordinate and prioritize tasks, workload and multiple projects
- Outstanding decision-making skills required to achieve organizational objectives with an understanding and consideration to the impact on other work groups
- Highly adaptable to set and prioritize work with varying exceptions
- Diplomacy, constructive thinking and innovative approach to drive solutions
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
- Advanced digital literacy to produce effective reports, documents, spreadsheets and presentations
- Communicate with clarity in all situations including written, verbal and group settings
