Integration of Grand River Hospital & St Mary’s General Hospital: In April 2024, the Boards of St. Mary’s General and Grand River Hospitals both independently voted in favour of a voluntary merger of the Hospitals to form a new hospital organization. This evolution of our partnership will occur alongside our joint redevelopment work, as we strive to build a new acute care campus in the community. We currently have an opportunity for a temporary full time Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator on the Integrated Communications Team at Grand River and St. Mary’s. This position is temporary until February 2025.

How the Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator supports our teams:

The Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator will provide support in the day-to-day needs of the hospital’s occupational health and safety program across multiple sites. The successful applicant will co-ordinate and administer the WHMIS and MSDS programs; participate in JHSC meetings and inspections, and research issues/concerns raised as needed; organize the JHSC inspection program; update occupational safety databases and provide reports and statistics; assist with emergency response audits and exercises; assist with the implementation of OHS policies & procedures; participate on standing and ad hoc committees as needed; assist the OHSW team members as needed.

The Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator Has:

  • Completion of post-secondary diploma or degree, or combination of education and work experience is required; completion of a program in occupational health and safety is preferred.
  • 1-2 years work experience in occupational health and safety is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable regarding the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations is preferred.
  • Superior customer service, administrative, organizational, analytical and written/verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Good to excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of Parklane is an asset.
