The HR Generalist I is a trusted HR advisor to the SBM team. Reporting to the HR Director, this role will be based in the Kitchener office and will provide support and guidance to leaders and employees in all HR activities pertaining to the employment lifecycle to ensure professional, timely and consistent support. They will play an important role in the areas of talent acquisition, compensation, performance, health/safety/wellness, employee relations, career development and administration of policies. This role will provide guidance and execution on a range of day-to-day HR activities that require judgement and sound decision-making.

What you will do as a trusted HR professional at SBM:
  • Promote positive working relationships across the SBM team that reflects the SBM culture
  • Investigate, collaborate and execute on talent acquisition strategies to attract top talent
  • In partnership with Leads, manage the talent acquisition process including job posting creation/review, resume and candidate review, creation of social media and internal website content, interviewing, onboarding and offboarding
  • Be a professional SBM Ambassador while attending career fairs, interviews and other recruiting networking forums
  • Collaborate and coach leaders on decisions relating to the overall employee experience
  • RRSP and benefits administration
  • Key contact for employees’ questions and concerns
  • Ensures integrity of employment processes and data
  • Research and update best practices and policies, procedures, and compliance; provide guidance and interpretation to leaders
  • Present HR updates at meetings and lunch and learns as required
  • Update and track key HR performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Compile and review bi-weekly payroll data
  • Perform HR Finance and year end activities as required
  • Assist with the management of the JHSC and health and safety initiatives
  • Occasional on-site office administration support for the London HR/Administration Team
Key Skills/Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3-year diploma in related Human Resources or related program
  • CHRP designation (or in progress) preferred
  • Experience and passion for all talent acquisition strategies/activities is preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant Canadian employment legislation and regulations (i.e. Employment Standards, Labour Relations, Human Rights, OHSA etc.)
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrates high integrity, confidentiality and professionalism
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Adaptable and able to perform as a supportive change agent
  • Commitment to ongoing professional and personal growth
  • Although this role is situated in the SBM Kitchener office, access to reliable transportation for occasional travel to London, or other regions in Ontario to attend career fairs, interviews etc., is required
