We are looking for an Electrical Department Head to join our Edmonton-based team. If you have an Electrical Engineering degree, a Professional Engineer designation recognized by APEGA, and a minimum of fifteen years of relevant experience, we want to hear from you

Capital Engineering offers a standard 5-day work week, or a condensed 4-day work week. However, all successful candidates must be willing to work in the office, not remotely.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Champion for safety within the organization.
  • Become a key member of the leadership team, influencing the goals and direction of the organization.
  • Utilize industry connections and key client relationships to help fuel Capital's growth.
  • Responsible for the stable growth and development of the team through recruitment, mentorship, training, and resourcing.
  • Accountable for the resource loading for the department.
  • Work with other Department Managers and leadership to streamline interfaces and improve collaboration.
  • Ownership of strategies and processes to improve overall team performance.
  • Responsible for the electrical engineering cost of service estimates and deliverables for proposals.
  • Responsible for the oversight of engineering quality in accordance with Capital's PPMP.
  • Removes roadblocks and provides guidance and decisions on project-related challenges.
  • Involved in the production of engineering deliverables, such as scoping studies, DBMs, construction work packages, reports, etc.
  • Capable of conducting field visits at client's facilities as required.

Technical Leadership Expertise

  • Good knowledge of industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NFPA, NEC), client specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with power distribution systems, motor control centers, high-voltage substations, grounding and protection systems, fire alarm systems, and electrical infrastructure for industrial energy facilities.
  • Can guide teams in performing load flow studies, arc flash analysis, relay coordination, and system reliability assessments.
  • Strong understanding of procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Ability to ensure project deliverables meet quality, budget, and schedule expectations.

What do we value:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree;
  • Professional Engineer designation by APEGA; or eligible for
  • At least 15 years of related experience;
  • Over 5 years as a discipline lead;
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English;
  • Progressive discipline engineering work experience, including supervision roles.
  • Recognized as an established Leader and Manager.
  • A self-starter with strong technical, interpersonal, teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
