We are seeking a passionate and patient Ukulele Instructor to volunteer their time and talent to teach older adults. This role involves leading group classes, fostering a fun and inclusive learning environment, and helping participants develop their musical skills. The ideal candidate will have experience playing the ukulele, a love for teaching, and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of older adults. The Active Adult Centre of Mississauga is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all volunteers, members, and guests.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead weekly ukulele classes for older adults.
  • Create a welcoming and engaging learning environment.
  • Teach basic ukulele techniques, chords, and songs.
  • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate varying skill levels and learning styles.
  • Encourage and motivate participants, fostering a sense of community and enjoyment.
  • Monitor and assess participants' progress, providing constructive feedback.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during classes.
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up of the classroom space.
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator and other staff to enhance the sessions.
  • Opportunity to share your passion for music and make a difference in the lives of older adults.
  • Gain experience in teaching and working with a diverse group of individuals.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in playing the ukulele.
  • Experience in teaching or instructing, especially with older adults, is a plus.

  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit individual needs and group dynamics.
  • Reliable and punctual, with a commitment to a regular volunteer schedule.
  • Background check may be required.

Time Commitment

This is a Short Term (3 months or less) commitment starting 2024-09-24 AND ending 2024-11-26. Shifts are available on the following days:
- Tuesday Afternoon, Saturday Afternoon

Time frame – Tuesdays (beginners session) 2:30pm to 3:30pm or 3:00pm to 4:00pm.
Or
Saturdays, 11:00am - 12:00pm beginning September 28th.

Training

Orientation about the Centre and its facilities will be provided.
