Purpose of Position:

To prepare and coordinate the financial part of the submission on a timely and profitable basis of claims under CRA's Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) and HMRC's R&D Tax Credit program for RDP's clients. To establish effective relationships with our clients and manage all files assigned ensuring timely filing of claims.

This position requires a high degree of time management and effective client communication and results. The associate must handle a number of complex files at the same time and meet target filing dates as well as hard deadlines imposed by CRA/HMRC. There are times when extra effort and time is required to meet the deadlines as is the case with most professional services. The associate must balance the provision of high quality, in-depth SR&ED/R&D Tax consulting services with maintaining a high billable rate through management of client expectations, engagement budgets and quick responses to unexpected contingencies that could affect engagement budgets.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the planning stage of a SR&ED file to the extent requested in terms of assessing financial eligibility.
  • At the commencement of an engagement, to review the financial part of the checklist and start gathering relevant accounting and tax data.
  • Where assigned assist Technical Associate with costing of eligible SR&ED/R&D Tax Credit activities. Complete all SR&ED/R&D Tax Credit tax forms for each file assigned.
  • Provide input on status of file to team member responsible for issuing status report to client.
  • Ensure all files are filed by deadline or in-house due date. Ensure records kept of all filings.
  • Attend CRA/HMRC review meetings to provide input on financial part of the claim.
  • Communicating and following best practices in client relationship continuity client accounts.
  • Participates in continuous improvement of RDP claim preparation best practices.
  • Acts as a resource on financial rules of the SR&ED/R&D Tax Credit program.

Qualifications

A Degree in a field of accounting would be considered an asset, but is not a requirement: CGA, CMA or CA or in the process of receiving this designation.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience required:

  • Experience with SR&ED or R&D Tax Credit consulting an asset.
  • Has strong accounting and costing skills.
  • Is knowledgeable of project costing as it relates to payroll, materials contractor and funding.
  • Solid time management skills & a proven track record of effectively managing and coordinating multiple ongoing assignments.
  • Has excellent listening & communication skills with clients& can provide references to support this.
  • Well-developed written and verbal technical communications skills.
  • Well-developed analytical skills.
  • Computer skills in Word, Excel, MS Office proficiency,
  • Familiarity with Tax software, such as TaxPrep, ProFile, Cantax and Tax Cycle.
  • Inter-personal skills
