Reporting to the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, the Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis will lead the FP&A team and work seamlessly with the Operational Finance and Corporate Finance functions. Key measures of success include implementing solutions to help understand and guide financial performance, integrating newly deployed technology and organizing processes to improve effectiveness.

The Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis will play a key role in understanding and communicating the financial performance and outlook of the business. This position is responsible for the business forecasting process, including the Business Plan, short-term forecasts, and performance analysis. Additionally, the role will be responsible for modelling the Strategic Plan and analyzing related performance. The successful candidate will help to foster a culture of teamwork and partnership within the business and across finance functions.

This position is based in locations where Bird has offices (Calgary, Edmonton, Mississauga, Richmond, Victoria, Halifax, Montreal, Winnipeg, Sudbury, Saint John, St. John's, Wabush, Thunder Bay).

What you will be working on

  • New Technology Development - Lead the development of processes to enable the business to develop, communicate and analyze data through new software platform (Prophix).
  • Planning & Forecasting - From a financial perspective, lead the longer-term strategic planning process, transitioning to a shorter-term Business Plan and quarterly forecasting.
  • Driving Business Acumen within the Finance team - Blend an understanding of the business and the project financials to drive accuracy in short-term forecasting, understanding the risk and opportunity landscape to limit unexpected financial outcomes.
  • Guiding the Financial Close with a Business Mindset - Play the lead role in guiding financial counterparts from their short-term forecast to actual results, keeping closing activities on track and informing leadership of progress on key metrics.
  • Corporate Expense Management – Provide actionable analytics to Functional leaders to understand spending variances.
  • Benchmarking – Supporting the business towards best-in-class performance on key metrics by understanding industry benchmarks.
  • Working with operational team members to analyze the business and identify risks to be managed and opportunities to improve results. Increasing visibility and fostering a culture of “no surprises and early communication”.
  • Support Director of FP&A and SVP, Operational Finance on company-wide improvement initiatives and ad hoc assignments.
  • Manage and develop the FP&A team.
  • Potential merger and acquisition work.

What We Are Looking For

  • University Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study
  • CPA and/or other relevant designations
  • Relevant work experience of at least 7 years with a history of career growth.
  • Solid understanding of project accounting, project management and project delivery of large capital projects
  • Knowledge of Viewpoint, Prophix and Spreadsheet Server is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in financial leadership roles
  • Infrastructure and public company experience an asset
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated, action oriented and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment or independently on routine tasks with a positive attitude
  • Flexible and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail especially when doing repetitive tasks
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals; ability to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment
