Director of Care of Quality

This position is for our Extendicare Cobourg Home, located in Cobourg, Ontario.

What you’ll be doing:

  1. Implement and evaluate the nursing department quality improvement initiatives, risk management systems, data collection and analysis, report writing, and procedural updates.
  2. Take the lead in the coordination and implementation of best practice and risk management initiatives related to resident care (i.e., falls, restraint use, wound management, Infection Control).
  3. Effectively manage utilization of nursing supplies.
  4. Be responsible for the High Intensity Needs program.
  5. Maintain a system of care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation at the resident and unit program level that maximizes staff resources and contributes to Extendicare Halton Hills interdisciplinary team approach to resident care.
  6. Effectively support the RAI-MDS program.
  7. Maintain an active presence in the Resident Home Areas mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality resident care.
  8. Initiate investigative and corrective actions related to occupational health and safety; develop and monitor modified work programs for nursing personnel.
  9. Work collaboratively with the Director of Care on special projects, reviews, and other duties as assigned.
  10. Identify areas of improvement for staff development and work with the DOC to ensure overall effectiveness of the nursing department.
  11. Advocate for ethical and effective practice in all areas of the organization.
  12. Complete Performance Appraisals with the inputs of other members.
  13. Focus on Resident Centered Care Needs as required by MOH LTC Home Legislation and Extendicare Policies.
  14. Actively participate in the palliative care program, goals of care, and advanced care planning.
  15. Be responsible for the nursing department.
  16. Successful candidate will be required to work one weekend/month.

What you bring:

  1. Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is preferred, or willingness to complete by April 2025.
  2. Registered Nurse registered with College of Nurses of Ontario; BScN an asset.
  3. Minimum of three years experience in long-term care; previous management experience an asset.
  4. Current knowledge of clinical issues for geriatric residents, infection control, principles of adult education, and quality improvement.
  5. Knowledge of RAI MDS is required.
